Creative Play for Preps

Our prep classes have a wide range of dress ups available for the students to practice their creative play. This is not only a delight to witness but it enables the students to practice their social and emotional skills as well as their creative thinking skills. This in turn leads to creative ideas when we are ready to write stories and helps to recall finer details when scripting recounts. Can you ever be too adorable?

Thank You Mr Ward from PA

Prep A have been lucky enough to have Mr Ward, a teacher Prac student from Deakin University working in our classroom over the past two weeks. He helped us learn skills and knowledge about safely riding bikes and scooters including braking, wearing helmets and controlling our bikes.

Grade 2 Willum Warrain Excursion

The Grade 2’s had a wonderful time on their recent excursion where they experienced the Willum Warrain Cultural Tour. A big thank you to our parent helpers Jayne, Jayde and Carla for coming along to help out.

Excursion

On the excursion we went on the bus to Willum Warrain in Indigenous language, in Australian language it means home by the sea. First we had our fruit and we also had our snack. I had some twisties and I had some strawberries and grapes also raspberries. I had rubbish for the first time EVER! I yelled at my mum when i finished school. When I finished my fruit and snack we went into the shed and they introduced themselves they told us how to say hello in their language we and 2W had to get in roll order and we got split into three groups and got a tour. Willum Warrain

On Monday at 9:50 we got on the bus for our excursion. When we got there we ate our snack. Then we got split into groups. The first place I went was the hut. They talked about how many got knocked down and why they put wire in it. Next they took us to two trees, they both are scar trees one about stories and the other for using and making. Then we saw three special plants, and this is technically a plant Bidgy Widgy, I know what it is. It’s Bindys. Saltbush was one of the three plants. It is edible, I only ate a few. Next in this very sharp plant, that they were used to cut. The last one we have it this seen in a plant that looks like wheat, the seed can be mashed up into sugar. We had a look at the eel Pun Pun and the turtle Pun Pun.

Willum Warrain

We went on an excursion to Willum Warrain. Miss.W chose a partner to sit next to us on the bus. We also had 2MD on the bus with us. When we arrived the first thing we had was… snack! I was starving! I couldn’t wait! We all finished snack and went to check out cool stuff. First we saw a bush called the salt bush. She told us that we could eat it. So we had a taste and it was so good because it was really, really salty! Next we had a smoking ceremony. They put ochre on our faces, except I didn’t want any on the top of my hand. Finally we had lunch and played around and we had to go back on the bus. Just for fun, we stopped at the playground. It was starting to rain so we went back to school.

Willum Warrain Excursion

On Monday morning I had an excursion to Willum Warrain because we are learning about the history of Somerville. Meanwhile we went with 2MD and the bus driver. As we got there we hopped off the bus and had our fruit and snack on the benches. Afterwards we went in the shed and the three ladies said their names and where they were from. Then I had to do a tour. First we saw an area that was 10 feet down and had eels. Then we went past the edible bush called saltbush. Then we saw a hut made out of clay, sticks and rock. Every 8 months it will fall down and they build it again. The other hut was for shelter. On our way we went past an echidna. Next we had a smoking ceremony. The ladies did an acknowledgement of country. They put ochre on our faces. The girls got dots and the boys got lines. After we went through the smoke to smell like country. We went back in the shed and the ladies told us a Dreamtime story that is true. They also told us about a possum cloak that could keep us warm. At the smoking ceremony we did an emu dance. So we got in a circle and put our arm up and when the beat got faster we ran. Then we got back on the bus and played at the park. I played on the swings, the pole, the slide and the monkey bars. Then we went back to school. The End.
