Seeking Host Families for our Soweto Student
For more than a decade our student leaders have been actively promoting the wonderful relationship we have with our sister school, Letsibogo Girls High School in Soweto, South Africa. Each year Frankston High School sponsors a student from Letsibogo and provides her with the opportunity of experiencing life and learning in a privileged environment that offers opportunities they may otherwise never experience, which they utilise with success when they return to South Africa. The student is selected according to her potential to graduate from school and progress with further tertiary learning and a fulfilling career.
We are asking Frankston High School families to consider hosting our 2016 Letsibogo Girls High School student for a period of four weeks. Our Soweto student will be arriving soon and completing Year 11 at Frankston High School. Host families are needed from April 2016 onwards. Daily needs such as clothing, toiletries, pre-pay mobile phone, public transport costs plus a $30 per week allowance are provided by the school. However, we would be relying on the generosity of host families to provide accommodation and food.
Receipts from public transport, phone cards for overseas calls (available from a newsagency) mobile phone cards, etc will be reimbursed from the Finance Office on the 7-10 Campus.
Please contact Anne Thomson on 0409 835 541 or email athomso@fhs.vic.edu.au for further enquiries.

Year 10 Work Experience: 20 - 24 June 2016
The Work Experience program is in full swing with over 330 students expected to undertake a Work Experience placement this year as part of the Year 10 curriculum.
PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT THE WORK EXPERIENCE ARRANGEMENT AND TRAVEL FORMS ARE DUE ON FRIDAY 11 MARCH.
Due dates have been set early to ensure our students have arrangements in place, as many other local schools run Work Experience in the same week and competition for placements is high. Students who are still waiting to hear back regarding a placement need to inform the Junior Resource Centre (JRC) of the situation.
If your student has not organised their Work Experience can you please help them to find a placement in the coming weeks. The Work Experience Portal page is a great place to start as it has a list of past employers and placement ideas: FHS Portal (home)>Resource Centre>Year 10 Work Experience. Students can also get support from the JRC Work Experience Team at lunchtimes and recess, or by contacting Michelle Snooks on 9783 7955.
Students will be completing their first OH&S training module in class in the coming week in preparation for their placement.
Thanks to the students who have already submitted their forms.
