ELC Director Update

Please note there is no contribution to the newsletter from the Director or a 4-Year-Old update this fortnight as Ms Mitchell is on leave. If you have any questions, please email fiona.mitchell@baysdecc.vic.edu.au

3-Year-Old Kindergarten

The children have done a fantastic job of becoming familiar with the daily routines at ELC, and engaging with many different sensory activities. The children explored and investigated ice as it melted with coloured water, shaving foam, coloured rice, rainbow oats, kinetic sand and playdough.

The children are active participants in their learning when they engage with the resources in their environment to inquire and develop their learning dispositions. We have been continuing to sing action songs and finger plays such as 'head, shoulders, knees and toes', 'open shut them', '5 cheeky monkeys' and '5 little ducks'. These songs and rhymes support the children's literacy and numeracy development.

We had a special visit from our 3 Japanese exchange students. The students sang a song in Japanese ('If you're happy and you know it'), and read stories to the children. They also sang ‘Happy Birthday’ to two of our students celebrating birthdays.

The children have been very engaged in crawling through our tunnel and practising their gross motor muscle movements as they crawl and practise animal movements. Whilst the children have been engaged in this activity, we have been practising turn-taking, sharing, and lining up at ELC.
