NADIA Infirri has been playing the piano since Year 4, taught herself the ukulele in Year 5 and took possession of her first guitar in Year 6. Now in Year 11, she has recorded her third album while embarking on a Certifcate III in Music Industry.
ST NORBERT NEWS: How would you describe your music?
NI: My music is influenced by a mix of R&B and Pop. My taste is very R&B based. I enjoy artists such as SZA, Summer Walker, Kehlani, Daniel Caesar, Frank Ocean, Giveon and Rex Orange County. Recently, I've been interested in Omar Apollo's music which hopefully I can create the same vibe. My song, Day Three, was heavily inspired by the song playing tricks by Thuy.
SNN: Tell us about your album?
NI: I have been working on this album since last June. It is dedicated to someone special to me. The one thing I love to tell people is that our beloved Mr Beins got to name it. I gave Mr Beins two options and he chose The Art of Falling for Him, which I'm so glad I went with. Mr Beins was one of the best teachers I've ever had and because of him naming it this album will always be special to me.
SNN: How was the album produced?
NI: I produced the majority of it. The songs Lavender Powder, Someday and Unfinished Business were produced, recorded and mixed at SNC with the help of Mr DiLabio and the song Only One (feat. Piphemi) was produced with the help of (fellow student) Hemi.
SNN: What has been your musical highlight so far?
NI: The biggest highlight for me is the love and acknowledgement that the school and my peers have provided me. Being able to gain 1000 streams in the first hour of release is incredible! I create music to keep sane most of the time and to express my feelings towards certain situations within my life and when people come up to me to tell me they listened to me, I feel heard and very much loved. It's crazy to know that someone else could love what I've made.
SNN: What are your ultimate aims?
NI: The ultimate aim for this year is to expose my music to as many people as I can. Whether that be through social media platforms, advertisements, word of mouth or even this newsletter!

YEAR 10 student Audrey Kamazizwa is passionate about entrepreneurship - and is already carving a name for herself in the beauty business.
Andrey set up her business, Rutendo Essence, 18 months ago with the help of her mum, family members and a business mentor, selling reed diffusers, hand-poured soy candles and various home fragrances. Rutendo Essence was born out of the need to teach young adults how to use the internet in creative ways, safely and in turn give back to needy communities in some way. During Covid, Audrey sought ‘how to’ videos which aligned with her passion for fashion and beauty products. and she noticed there was a gap in the market for specific cosmetic products that appealed to her. including lip gloss and lip balm. At an Independent Learning Week program at the College, Audrey learnt about cosmetic chemistry, which ignited a desire to develop her own beauty and home fragrance products.
In January, Audrey pitched her products to the owner of Kalahari in Willetton who was so impressed she offered her an opportunity to stock her products in store. In May 2022, Audrey also presented her business in front of other female entrepreneurs at a business coaching and networking workshop run by Interactive Cue Consultant. At this event Audrey gave an elevator pitch of her business, where she received a standing ovation and positive feedback. This workshop also allowed Audrey to gain new potential clients for her business.
One of Audrey’s main business values is giving back to those in need, and with the sale of her products she supports Mavambo Services, which is an organisation that donates to children in need within Zimbabwe. Audrey and her business have already donated sanitary products to a secondary school in Masvingo, Zimbabwe and in December stationery items were donated to all students and teachers at Gundura primary school. The next mission for Audrey and her company is to find enough donations to build a library and a computer lab in a rural school in Zimbabwe.
