Head of the River:

Congratulations to all our rowers who competed at the Head of the River last Saturday 18th March.  It was great to see all their hard work rewarded at the last event of the season.

  • 7/8 A Crew – B Final – 2nd Place
  • 8/9 C Crew – A Final – 6th Place
  • 8/9 B Crew – A Final – 2nd Place
  • 8/9 A Crew – A Final – 2nd Place
  • 9/10 A Crew – B Final – 2nd Place
  • 1st 4+ - A Final – 2nd Place
  • 1st 8+ -  A Final – 5th Place
  • Schoolgirl Reserve Single – 1st Place
  • Schoolgirl Reserve Single - 3rd Place

Beyond wins and losses, this season and this Head of the River has shown a phenomenal change of attitude, both in and around the club. As the 1st 8 put their boat on water they were flanked on both sides by a line of their school friends and crewmates cheering them on. As we triumphed, we cheered one another’s successes, and where we failed, we leant on each other.

This season has made everyone in Loreto Rowing only more excited for next season and the work we can do then…but for now everyone can have some rest.

Sports Trainings:

Winter Sport Nominations

Teams are currently being finalised for soccer, hockey, netball, basketball and volleyball. If you haven’t registered your daughter for her preferred winter sport(s), please contact Ben Johnswood as soon as possible – Ben.Johnswood@Loreto.sa.edu.au

Netball

The Year 3/4s and the Year 5/6 students have been going through trial sessions this week in preparation for the winter season.

It has been great to see the gym absolutely packed with aspiring netballers. The standard has been excellent and we will have plenty of teams running around in the blue and gold bibs this winter. Just in case you were wondering, the most popular positions players nominated themselves for were: Goal Attack and Goal Shooter.

Winter is coming… just as Summer netball is wrapping up. Our Netta and Primary teams have finished their summer seasons. There are no finals at these levels though several of our teams performed very strongly. However, our two Sub-Junior teams are still strutting their stuff. They both won semi final matches last Friday and progress to preliminary finals this week. Peaking at the right time! Good luck girls.

A huge thank you must go to all our summer coaches Anna McClure, Michael Borillo, Tahlia Drogemuller, Eliza Healy, Emma Searle, Dan Searle, Megan Weekley, Rebecca Lehmann, Fiona Mackay, Iris Hamilton, Georgia Dagas and Lucy Dachs. You have done a fantastic job looking after the girls and the school is very lucky to have you involved.

Winter Soccer

Please note that IGSSA are now offering soccer in Term 2 as well as Term 3. Previously it had only run in Term 3. Please let Ben know if your daughter would like to play soccer in both terms.

Basketball

It has been a funny term for our basketball teams with two heat outs, a bye and most recently a cancelled game due to a referee shortage. Thank you to coaches Holly and Nicola who organised an internal game in the Loreto gym on Wednesday to fill the void. The game was played in great spirits. The Slam Dunkers won 30-16 despite some razzle dazzle from the Lightning’s Alyssa Reed. And a special mention to Rudi Fiorillo who scored her first points!

Volleyball

Well done to Aeon, Sharon and the team who had a great win last Friday over Mercedes, 3 sets to 0. The crushing win must have sent a tremor of fear through the competition… because our opponent has forfeited this week.
