John XXIII Rowing Club
Dear Rowing Families,
We are now a week away from the Bunbury Regatta and we have been blessed with some amazing, flat water to train on. Several rowers have been gaining experience in the single and double sculls and it has been great to see those rowers stretch beyond their comfort zones and gain experience in what can be a slightly less stable boat.
To all rowers, always remember to make the most of every water session from getting 'hands on' the first tinny to making technical changes when you are rowing. If you don’t understand what your coach is asking, seek clarification with them. Perfecting the rowing stroke is an ongoing process and little improvements each day culminate into great results later in the season.
Save the Date
We are very excited to be celebrating our 30th Anniversary as the John XXIII Rowing Club. Please put 20 May 2023 into your calendars to save the date for this special occasion! More details will be shared closer to the date.
South West Head of the River 24-25 March
The South West Head of the River is fast approaching! This fun regatta is held at the Bunbury Rowing Club, Cobblestone Drive, Bunbury on Saturday 25 March 2023.
Rowers and their families traditionally head down on Friday and stay overnight in Bunbury. There are many accommodation options in Bunbury, most families stay at The Lighthouse, The Mantra, or the Lord Forrest. If you haven’t made your accommodation arrangements, we suggest making them soon to avoid missing out as families from other schools also stay in Bunbury overnight.
Rowing family dinner – Friday 24 March
The Rowing Club Committee invites all rowers and their families to share a casual picnic dinner at the Bunbury Rowing Club at 6:30pm on Friday 24 March. It is a ‘BYO everything’ event – food, drinks, picnic blankets, chairs, plates, cutlery and glasses.
Regatta
A BBQ breakfast will be provided from 6:30am on Saturday 25 March on the foreshore of the Bunbury Rowing Club. For those families intending to travel down on Saturday 25 March, you will need to be at the Bunbury Rowing Club no later than 7:00 am. The Regatta commences at 8am and finishes at approximately 1:30pm.
All rowers will be required for boat unloading at the JTC Boatshed on Sunday 26 March 8:00am.
Augusta Rowing Tour
The Augusta Rowing Tour aims to provide our senior rowers with the opportunity to develop their personal fitness, rowing abilities and camaraderie moving into the 2023 season.
