Year 11 Challenge Day

The Year 11 students went to the cable park in Melbourne which had many activities such as kneeboarding, wakeboarding, cable climbing and an inflatable obstacle course on the water.

The kneeboarding was exciting but very terrifying at first, the first time I went on I fell off along with the two other times I went kneeboarding. Eventually I came to the conclusion I was not good at this at all so I gave up on that and watched the very talented Mr Noy and Mr Vinicombe smash all of us at wakeboarding.

Cable climbing was quite difficult and fair to say I won’t be able to move my arms for a very long time. I went to the highest point of the cable climbing obstacle course and completed very different obstacles like riding a bicycle that was connected to what looked like a very unsafe beam. However, I got to the other side without dying.

The inflatable obstacle course on the water was probably the most fun, everyone was pushing each other in the water.. Overall I left with lots of knocks but it was great fun and I would definitely do it again!

VCAL First Aid Training

One element of VCAL is up-skilling students so that when they enter the workforce, they have helpful qualifications that could assist them with gaining employment. Recently we have been completing our Level 2 First Aid, with Tim Alchin from Ranges Tec.

The online work did take quite a few lessons to complete, but then the students got to enjoy the workshops where they had to play out practical scenarios, do CPR training, practice doing slings and using training Epipens. I was very happy with how the students responded to these sessions, and now they can add this certificate to their resumes! Not only is this a great training for their future jobs which may require the training, but it is also helpful for their confidence if they ever encounter the need to use first aid in real life. The importance of helping those in a challenging situation where they need first aid is a great way of showing service to the community, and using our knowledge and skills to bless others.
