Make a Joyful Noise

Music at MECS

Interschool Music is Fun!

On Thursday and Friday last week over 30 of our students participated in the collaborative music events run by the Christian Schools Events Network (CSEN). We spent two days working with students from other Christian schools and then put a final performance on for our family and friends on the evening of the second day.

Most of the MECS students were in the choir which was run by a teacher from Maranatha Christian School. They sang three pieces in the concert, Bring Me a Little Water, What a Beautiful Name and Cover Me in Sunshine. This was a great opportunity for our older Primary choir students not only to work with our own Secondary students but also those from the other schools and some of them were outstanding vocalists.

Our own Mrs Metcalfe was in charge of the concert band, and for the only MECS student in the band, it was his first time playing in such a large ensemble. They played four pieces; Skyfall, Salvation is Created, Come and Dance With Me and We Don’t Talk About Bruno. It was very exciting to have such a large band full of unusual instruments (there was a tuba and bass clarinet) and Mr Mealy rocked it out on his bass guitar.

Schools also provided some small group items for the concert and over the two days Zac K and India J joined three students from other schools to prepare a beautiful performance of Come to the Altar. Zac K and Joel K also gave a performance of Amazing Grace/My Chains are Gone, showing their ability to sing in harmony and play instruments at the same time.

This is such a great event for our students – seeing the students from other schools each year gives an amazing opportunity to share our giftings and the opportunity to make a wonderful musical offering to each other, our family members and to God who gave us these creative giftings in the first place is one that we look forward to every year.
