Artist, James Giddy visited the school campus last week. James is a mural artist based in Perth. He painted a magpie scene at Borden Primary School last year and has just finished a mural at Curtin University. His work can be found at many public venues throughout Perth and Western Australia. James will be creating a mural of the osprey in Week Eight and he conducted workshops with some of our very talented students to develop the design!

Examples of James’s work can be found at https://www.jamesgiddy.com.au

Media

Do you like making or watching films?

Yes, then check out these clubs! Both Media Club and Film Club are starting up again for this year. See below for details.

Media Club

  • What: A club to learn filmmaking skills and to plan, film and edit a short film. Participate in this year's Film Competitions and work individually or in a group to produce a short film.
  • Where: Media Lab - Pratten Centre.
  • When: Wednesday after school 3.15pm to 4.30pm.
  • Who: Secondary students (Years Seven to Twelve). No experience necessary. Please bring enthusiasm, positive attitude and a good work ethic.
  • Why: Because you can learn new skills and enter your films into competitions where you may win lots of prestige and prizes. And it's awesome.

Film Club

  • What:  A club to expand your film knowledge. We will watch a selection of art and world cinema that you otherwise may not see. Films selected are often chosen to compliment the Year Eleven and Twelve Media Production and Analysis courses - however you do not need to be a Media Student to join in.
  • Where: Media Lab - Pratten Centre.
  • When: Monday after school 3.15pm to 5.30/ 5.45pm (depending on the length of the film). Films finish after the late bus - students must arrange their own transport home if they are to attend.
  • Who: Students in Years Ten, Eleven or Twelve - (Students in Year Ten may not be able to attend some weeks depending on the film rating). If you are not a Media student and you would like to join in, then you will need to email me at katie.gunning@gsg.wa.edu.au before you can attend. This is so I am able to obtain parental consent before the screening.
  • Why: To learn, to walk in someone else's shoes, to experience art or to spend time with friends. ABC - benefits of watching movies
