Grade 3/4 News

Week 6, Term 1

Reminders 

  • NAPLAN - Week 7: Wednesday, 15th March - Friday, 17th March
  • Homework - Week 7: Reading Diary only (due to NAPLAN)
  • Homework - Week 8: Reading Diary and Studyladder (3 tasks only)
  • Home Reading Diaries must be checked each night and come to school Friday with a parent signature. Students will need to read a minimum of 20 minutes for 4 nights each week

NAPLAN

NAPLAN will be held from 15th - 17th March (Wed - Fri, Week 7). In order to ensure that all netbooks are accessible and fully charged, Grade 3 students will be required to store their netbooks and chargers at school from Friday, 10th of March (end of Week 6) until Friday, 17th March (end of Week 7)

 

All Grade 3 students will also need headphones to assist them in completing their 'Language Conventions' and 'Mathematics' NAPLAN tests. If your child does not already have headphones at school, please send along a pair for them to use. Thankyou for your assistance with this!

 

Grade 4 students will work through a variety of Writing activities in the 3/4 portables while the Grade 3s complete their NAPLAN testing.

Science & ICT Rotations

There are a few exciting changes that will be happening to our learning program in the next fortnight! 

In Week 7, we will introduce some fun Science rotations with each unit lasting approx. 4 weeks. In these units, students will be exploring life cycles, heat, the physical properties of natural and processed materials and how Earth's rotation on its axis causes day and night. 

In Week 8, we will begin our ICT rotations! These rotations will last approx. 5 weeks per unit. The topics and programs students will be investigating include Lego Designer, Microsoft PowerPoint, Animation, Cybersafety and Scratch. 

Learning in Weeks 7 & 8

Mathematics: Students will continue to explore 'Addition & Subtraction' during our Fluid Group sessions. In our Maths Applied sessions, students will have fun completing a variety of hands-on 'Problem Solving' and 'Chance' experiments.

 

Writing & Reading: In Writing, Grade 4 students will learn about Poetry while the Grade 3s complete their NAPLAN testing. During Week 8, we will begin a reflective journal that will be completed in Week 9. In Reading, we will learn about 5 different types of figurative language and the importance of using punctuation to guide our reading. 

 

Topic: This fortnight in 'The Game of Life', students will explore 'The Habits of Role Models'. In these lessons, we will consider the various traits of famous role models and discuss who the roles models are in our own lives.
