What do Legal Studies students do for fun? They become detectives! Recently, students in the Legal Studies class completed an activity where they had to become detectives and put together a case file for the Supreme Court. The activity focused on the defences and elements of murder as well as the identification of key aspects of the case such as the principle offender and the presence of malice aforethought.
The students worked in small groups to investigate the crime and build a case file. Through this activity, the students learnt how to research evidence, build a case and present the findings to their classmates. The activity was a great success as it gave the students the opportunity to put the knowledge they had gained in class into practice. It also helped them to understand the complexities of the court system and how different defences are used in order to prove or disprove guilt.
The Legal Studies class was able to gain a greater understanding of the criminal justice system and the work that goes into building a case for the court. It was a great learning experience for the students and a great way for them to apply their knowledge to a real-world situation.
