We are so proud of our 31 students who represented the school at the District Swimming event last week. All of our students swam exceptionally well and to the best of their ability. Thank you Emma and Elly for supervising the kids.

Student reflections

By Emily C, 5E

On the 27th of February I had the pleasure to go to the district swimming. The best part of going was representing NMPS. I also liked hanging out with my friends when we don't have any swimming events, so we watched people swim instead. Don't tell our parents, but I think that we had too many lollies. I competed in freestyle and butterfly and with my friends Ella, Jaz and Harper, we swam the 4x50m freestyle relay. In the end it was a fun and exciting day. Good luck to everyone who got into the division.

On Monday the 27th of February, 31 competitors from years 4-6 competed in the Ascot Vale Swimming Districts. On that day at Keilor East Leisure Centre, NMPS joined the freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly individual events and the 4 x 50m freestyle relays plus medley relays. We got quite a good result!

We started our races where Kale held a snapper and snapped it when the competitions started. On the other end, where competitors finish, Ben typed our results into his computer.

My first individual event was backstroke. I got everything ready and ran up to the marshalling area. The next thing I knew was that I’m in the water waiting for the snap sound. SNAP! SPLASH! I used all my might and did my quickest strokes. I hit the other end. A staff gave me a first tag. But not so fast! We waited for the second heat and lined the times up so we knew who is in which place. I was the first! I collected my ribbon & certificate and went back proudly. Wait! It was my second race: breaststroke!

I went into my diving position. SNAP! I lifted my head up and then put it down so many times that I’m too dizzy to work out what place I am. Finally, I felt better. I looked down into my hands. 1st place! Now that the second heat has finished I knew I was the winner again. There it was, my ribbon and certificate. Now I could have a rest while I waited for all the butterfly events to finish. It was finally my last competition, also my most excited one. It included teamwork. It was the 4x50 metre freestyle relay. In this competition, there would be 4 people each swimming 50 metres one after another. I swam first in the relay. SNAP! I swam in tremendous speed. In no time, I reached the end. As soon as I put my head out of the water I heard the splash of one of my partners. Our last partner gave us the good news, we’re second! I got my ribbon and went back.

It was a successful day for every one of us. 10 racers including me got into division and we are all hopeful to go beyond the division. Wish us luck!

Upcoming Division event

Congratulations to the following students for progressing through to the Division event this Thursday 9th March. Good luck!
