Foundation (Prep)

Welcome to Foundation!
This week the students started their Alphabet Books. We will continue to focus on the letter sounds for all letters of the alphabet, but we also revisit each letter for a week and spend more time on the correct letter formation for both the upper and lowercase letters.
This week we focused on the letter Cc. Students brainstormed a list of words that start with the 'c' sound and we recorded some in our books.
Please see the updated list with this week's sounds:
'Ants on apples, a, a, a'
'Cats drive cars, c, c, c'
'Ducks dive down, d, d, d'
'On the orange, o, o, o'
'Girls giggle, g, g, g'
'Seals swim, seals slide, s, s, s'
'Quick, quiet, queen, kw, kw, kw'

In Maths, students have been introduced to ordinal number. Ordinals are numbers we use when we want to put things in order (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) We have practised identifying the position of various objects when lined up and talked about when we might use this language in our daily lives, e.g. in a race. The children completed an activity to show their understanding.
Inquiry
As mentioned in the newsletter last week, this term we are completing a unit called Me and My Community.
Our focus moved from talking about ourselves to talking about families. We discussed that we all have a family but families can be different to each other. In Maths, we linked our discussions to the number of people who live in our house and created a picture graph. We also drew pictures of our families and made colourful frames for them.
Enjoy the long weekend and I'll look forward to seeing you Tuesday next week.
