Principal's Notes

Dear families,

It's been another great week at Cavendish PS. We are now fortunate to have Emily Crawford at school each Wednesday working in Miss Gray's class as part of her Year 11 school program.

Also, NAPLAN begins next week with four tests - Writing, Conventions of Language, Reading and Mathematics. All these tests are completed online for Year 5s.

Public Holiday

Reminder that next Monday 13th is a Public Holiday (Labour Day).  No students are required at school.  Enjoy your long weekend everyone.

GRIP Leadership Conference

Next Tuesday our Years 5 & 6 students will attend a leadership conference at Mount Gambier at the Sir Robert Helpman Theatre.  Craig Shipcott (driving our mini-bus) and myself will be attending. We will be leaving at 7:30am from school.  Could all students please make sure they have packed morning tea, lunch, water bottle and a pen.  Students are to wear their school rugby jumpers.  We anticipate that we will return to school at approximately 4:40pm.  If the time changes we will put a message on the parents Whats App page.

You might be wondering what GRIP is all about - GRIP Leadership is a values driven organisation that exists to train and develop leaders with a special focus on school students.

GENEROSITY - Willingness to use what you have been given (time and resources) on behalf of those you seek to influence.

RESPONSIBILITY - We all have a responsibility to develop what we have and help others to live well.

INTEGRITY - A commitment to truth and honesty in dealings.

PEOPLE - Every human being is of great significance, and has a purpose to fulfill.

Little Athletics - Junior Class

Next Tuesday afternoon our Years F-2 will be attending their Little Athletics lessons in at Mitchell Park in Hamilton.  Thank you to our parent helpers Carly, Marion and Marni  who will be attending with Miss Gray and Miss P.  Mrs Bell will be taking the Year 4's for the afternoon.

Picnic Sports

Thank you to everyone who has come along to our Picnic sports today.  Photos and results will be in next week's newsletter.

School Council

Our School Council Meeting is on next Wednesday 15th March at school.  Paperwork and Agendas have been emailed out today in readiness. The nomination period for School Council is now closed and I declare that Simon Thomas, Ben Cross and Carly Behncke are the newly elected members for a two year term. Two new community members will also be co-opted into School Council at the AGM next Wedensday.

Thank you

Thank you to Paul Coates for hanging up some blinds and boards for us in school and for dropping off some new sand for our sandpit. This will be great for our senior students to practice their long jump, in readiness for the SGSSA Athletics in Hamilton.  Paul has also organised for our school to have our lights upgraded to LED through a Government Initiative.  Paul has donated a lot of his time doing jobs for school over the years and we are very appreciative.

A big thank you also to Craig and Lachie Crawford for donating their time to clean out the school's mower shed.  This was a big task, as it was full of rubbish (and spiders).  It now looks amazing!

We do have some burnable items so if any of our families have a burn pile down the paddock, we would love it if this could be collected from school in a ute or trailer, down near the big tanks and taken away.

Have a lovely weekend.
