Cows Create Careers

This term, students in Years 3-6 will be participating in the Cows Create Careers (CCC) program. The Cows Create Careers program was started by the Strzelecki Lions Club in Gippsland, Victoria in 2004 and has grown into a national program; now run by Dairy Australia. The program has recently received recognition by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority and is now implemented in the Year 7&8 curriculum. CCC is Literacy and Numeracy based and allows students to learn about the different skills and capabilities required for a career in the dairy industry.

Over the next 5 weeks, students will learn about five key areas.

  1. The Dairy Industry.
  2. Technology used on a dairy farm including the herringbone shed, robotic dairies and rotaries.
  3. Environmental and natural resources including irrigation, emissions, food recovery and innovation.
  4. Farm safety including keeping families, workers and visitors safe, keeping animals safe, and being safe on and around farm machinery and vehicles.
  5. Marketing and careers in the dairy industry.

At the end of the 5 weeks, all students will submit a final project which will summarise their learnings. There are some awesome prizes up for grabs for both participating schools and individual students.

We are looking forward to a WebEx meeting with our South West industry advocates on the 2nd of June. John and Deanne, our industry advocates, have vision and dairy industry knowledge which will encourage and support our students with their involvement in the Cows Create Careers program. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions on what they may want to know more about within the dairy industry.
