Paddling on the mighty Murray

In Week 7, our year 11 and 12 Outdoor and environmental Studies students departed on their three day Murray River Canoe Journey through Barmah Forrest and Murray Valley National Parks. Their journey aimed to investigate different users' perspectives of the river and its overall health. The journey was a huge success with the high water level giving both groups the chance to enjoy the fast river current.

There were so many highlights, including:

Learning how to canoe and mastering (or at least trying to master) the teamwork needed to keep a canoe going straight

Seeing a nesting colony of Spoonbills

Swimming and playing in the 'Mighty Murray'

Visiting and camping beside the internationally significant Ramsar wetlands site; Barmah Lake

Toasting marshmallows on the campfire

Talk from guest speaker Yorta Yorta woman, Greta

Seeing a range of issues and perspectives on the impact of Brumbies in the national park
