Year 7 Volleyball teams and coaches
Congratulations to our Swim team who competed in the Regional Swimming Carnival at Watermarc on March 23. With a team of 16 our swimmers all had a great day out competing for our school.
Well done to our Yr 7 Volleyball teams who recently competed in the Darebin Divisional Competitions. All of our teams competing had a fun day out while learning a sport that many of them had not played before. A big thank you to our student coaches Chiara Vanarelli and Julia Rossi Hunt who helped out with selection of the teams and coaching the boys on their day out and to Jacqueline Barlow and Jassica Mckain who coached the girls. A big thank you also to Ms Hales who has been working tirelessly with all of our volleyball teams.
Our Yr 7 Girls competed in the Divisional Competition at Lakeview Tennis club on 24th March. Our girls were runners up on the day with Preston High School the overall winners. The girls showed some steady improvement throughout the day. Thank you to Eliza Saligari for coaching the team. ,
On Monday Northcote’s Intermediate Girls came runners up at Regional, defeating Aitken and Macleod and losing in a tight game to St. Helena. All games were played in good spirit, with each player contributing to the team’s performance throughout the day. Great pitching and fielding from Jade, some great catches and batting by Minke, solid catching behind the plate from Elena, stand-out hitting from Ella. N and Rosie, and great fielding and base running by Eliza, Ella. T and Grace. Runners-up may be enough to get the team through to state. Fingers crossed!
Our Intermediate Boys Volleyball team had a great day out at the Regional Competition on April 5. The boys combined well together and played some very good volleyball and finished on top of their pool after defeating ILIM College, Macleod Secondary, Mernda Secondary College. This qualified them to play off in the final against Eltham College. The boys fought hard but could not match the very polished Eltham, a school who has Volleyball as part of their curriculum. Although there we disappointed with the loss, they now know they need to work harder at training if they want to take off the title next time. A huge thank you to Amelia Mensingh and Alicia Chant for their constant hard work coaching Volleyball. We couldn’t do it without them.
It is so good to have sport back. It gives such a positive vibe and is a fantastic balance that we all need in our lives. Thank you to all staff, student coaches and students who have made this very busy term possible. We look forward to another busy term in Sport in Term 2.
