Wool Overview Program

Last Thursday and Friday the first two days of the three-day Wool Overview Program commenced. It is a unique, practical, industry-led insight into the wool industry that is offered to interested Year 9 students. Through hands-on activity the workshop provides a holistic overview of the wool processing pipeline and the many career pathways driven by Australian wool.  This includes skills involved in wool growing, shearing, and shearing shed operations, wool handling and classing, Work Health and Safety, sheep husbandry, wool testing, wool buying/selling, brokering and wool processing.

The agricultural industry is currently vibrant with careers in the wool industry in increasing demand. The final day was held on Wednesday culminating with a focus on the multitude of opportunities and some of the many career paths into this industry.

At Monivae one of these career pathways can start as early as Yr 10 with either the Certificate II in Agriculture RIST school trainee program, or the Certificate II in Agriculture through SW TAFE VET.  Either of these ways are incorporated into a student’s curriculum timetable and count towards VCE and ATAR and VCAL. Further information about these two programs can be obtained through the VET/VCAL Faculty.
