Scooter use

It is ILLEGAL for E-Scooters to be used in any public place in Victoria (roads, footpaths, shared paths, parks, etc) .

They can ONLY be used on PRIVATE PROPERTY.

They are classified as MOTOR VEHICLES if they can travel at more than 10kph and produce 200 watts or more.

Therefore, they require a LICENCE, REGISTRATION, HELMET etc. if used in public or road-related areas.

Heavy Penalties apply for use in public areas.

The only exception to this is the current “Trial” of ride-share scooters for hire in certain areas of Melbourne.
