Year 10 Lorne Camp

As part of the Year 10 Outdoor Education program, students participated in the Lorne Surf Camp. This adventure based program allowed the students to be self-sufficient for three days and two nights, camping at the Lorne Foreshore Caravan Park and cooking their meals on trangias.

We left MGSC on Tuesday 5 April and stopped at the Australian National Surf Museum in Torquay on our trip down, discovering the history of surfing and learning about the technological improvements making surfing the activity it is today. We then took off to Lorne and set up our tents, creating our camp for the next two nights. We were lucky to have a ranger from the Great Ocean Road Parks Authority introduce us to the native flora and fauna that this beautiful landscape had to offer and then began preparations for our first night’s dinner. On Day two, we started the morning with a surf lesson, cooked a hot breakfast and then headed up the mountain to Erskine Falls. The Live wire Park was next; zip lining and tree surfing, whilst looking down at the beautiful forest! Day three started with a two hour surf before we began the task of packing up our tents and heading back to MGSC

This trip definitely developed our resilience, along with our appreciation and gratitude for the comforts we are lucky to have at home. We worked together as a team, cooked amazing meals in our trangias and had a great time trying new activities. What an experience! Something we will remember forever.
