ANZAC Commemoration Service
What a great start to the term with our Senior Concert Band entertaining students on their way into school on Tuesday! The Senior Concert Band also provided a rousing rendition of the National Anthem for our ANZAC service. Notably Anthony Eliott (Year 12) performed the Last Post and Reveille on our new SPX bugle. As you might remember we raised funds from the community for this instrument through Woodchatta and PAPA. Thanks to everyone who donated towards this instrument. The bugle is the traditional instrument on which these 2 solemn works are played and provides another dimension of authenticity and respect to this occasion. Playing the Last Post is very special and an honour for the performer. This instrument will be used as part of our yearly ANZAC and Remembrance Day services and forms a link to the great military heritage at SPX.
85th Anniversary Concert
Only 3 weeks of preparation to go. I’m getting very excited to launch our musical year and show the whole community the great talent that exists at St Pius X. Details on ticketing will be published next week. Thanks to all the efforts in getting this concert to happen and special thanks to PAPA who will give the students dinner before the show. See you there. On our preparation please note some extra drama rehearsals. Ms Lindley has sent out key dates for these rehearsals and costume details.

Year 11 & 12 Drama Excursion
This Thursday the Senior Drama Students will attend Sydney Theatre Company's Packer Theatre to see The Picture of Dorian Gray. An outstanding production adapted from the novel and directed by the Artistic Director, Kip Williams. Presented as a one woman show with the actress, Erin Jean Norvill, playing all 26 roles. The play is a masterpiece of acting and multi-media with the set and crew being an integral part of the show.
Year 9 & 10 Drama Excursion: Blithe Spirit
At the end of last term students in Elective Drama Years 9 & 10 had the opportunity to head to the Opera House to see Noel Coward’s hilarious play Blithe Spirit at the Drama Theatre. Seated on the front row the students were able to see every facial expression and moments between characters. This is a fast-paced and thrilling farce with excellent stage business and set-pieces. The floating table was particularly impressive. The plot is quite simple: a spiritualist medium holds a seance for a writer suffering from writer's block but accidentally summons his first wife instead! Outstanding in every way.
