Project Compassion

A well-deserved congratulations to the entire St Pius X College Community for your efforts with our Term 1 Lenten Collection for CARITAS’ annual Project Compassion Appeal. Each year CARITAS raises funds through donations which allows major projects to be completed in developing countries to bring dignity to the lives of the most disadvantaged. In previous collections developing communities have been provided with the necessities of shelter, food, clean drinking water and health care. Our appeal here at the College raised just on $10,000 so that CARITAS can continue to work with the most disadvantaged of our world.

Social Outreach Work – Centacare

During the recent school holidays a group of Year 10 and 11 students completed work alongside employees of Centacare at Belmore. Centacare is a Catholic organisation that provides meaningful employment and training for adults living with severe intellectual disabilities. Our students worked as part of the Solidarity Program with employees – living a day in the life of someone dealing with an intellectual disability. Students were involved in the factory operations, training programs involving cooking and IT skills as well as safety and communication skills. The experience for the boys is often very humbling and opens their eyes to a world that many have little to no experience. The employees also enjoy the time the young men of St Pius X College give to them. We look forward to re-visiting Centacare in the next school holidays, as well as ensuring that Year 10 students provide each employee with a gift for their annual Christmas party.
