A Taste of Ramadan 2022 - Iftar Meal
On 7 April a group of Year 11 St Pius X and Mercy College students were given the opportunity to attend the 2022 'A Taste of Ramadan' Iftar (dinner). The dinner was hosted by Amity College in Auburn and was an opportunity for students from various schools to share with our Muslim brothers and sisters in breaking their fast. The event is held annually.
Students listened to Quranic recitations, the call to prayer and witnessed the Muslim ritual of prayer. Students then shared in an amazing meal where they were able to share their own experiences of school, lockdown and other experiences within their lives.
The event invites our young students to respond to the Catholic tradition calling them to be instruments of peace and contribute to a cohesive and harmonious Australian society. The sharing of the Iftar meal provides an opportunity for students to engage in interfaith dialogue with students from various religious and cultural backgrounds in order to develop an authentic understanding of Islam.
A big thank you to the wonderful hospitality of Amity College and their student leaders. The students who attended were so grateful to be part of such a special night.

Welcome Back to Term 2
Welcome back to Term 2. We encourage all students and families to continue to connect to the “curriculum of story” of the College and our community through learning, cocurricula activities including sport, performing arts, camps and excursions, and essentially our kindness and support for one another and each individual in our community to smooth the way to our ideal of an engaged and inclusive entity enlivened by meaning, purpose and shared experience.
With a very successful Year 7 Camp conducted last term, we wish Year 6 every positive experience on their camp this week and every student well as they recommence positive learning routines and interactions this week and sports and activities leading into this weekend and beyond throughout Term 2.
SLSA National Titles
Congratulations to our students and staff who competed in the National Surf Lifesaving Titles at the commencement of the holidays. Our list of medal winners included Mr Di Sano who received a Bronze in Rescue and Resuscitation representing Freshwater SLSC. Our beaches are in good hands.
ANZAC Day Commemorations
Thank you to College Leaders Ethan Rosetto and Elliott Cook who followed up from the 2021 Chatswood RSL Garden of Remembrance Dawn Service Address to represent us in commemorating the great and personal sacrifices in war at the 7.00 am Willoughby Park Commemorative Service. Will Job (Year 6), Alex Regan (Year 11), Andrew McKinnon and College Vice Captain Ronan Crispe (Year 12) attended along with Mr Pat Rodgers to represent the College and lay a wreath in honour of the fallen.
“They gave their today for our tomorrow.”
Lest We Forget.
Well done also to our Music Tutor, Mr David Sismey, who sounded the Last Post and Revielle at both Willoughby Commemorations and to our Year 12 Leader Anthony Elliott who played in the Willoughby Brass Band and sounded the Last Post for the 2/33rd Bn gathering later in the day. The 2/33rd Bn Association are great friends of the College through our Kokoda Track Expeditions and Immersion works while the 2/17 Bn have links through our Red Dirt Expedition and two step brothers: Roy Barker and George Kearney who enlisted from Brewarrina Mission and fought at Tobruk and Papua New Guinea where George was KIA and was buried in Bomana Cemetery Port Moresby.
We recognise that many others represented our community significantly and note as an example Jerome Naudet of Year 7 who supported his Mum's Cub Group in collecting for Legacy on Monday at Circular Quay.
Christian Brothers' Chapter Meeting
We wish the Christian Brothers who were custodians of our school for so many years well in their deliberations at a significant Chapter Meeting this week. Mr Stuart McMinn, who teaches our students about Aboriginal Culture on Year 9 Camp at Workul Koo, and his team, led the Brothers in ceremony on Sunday afternoon to commence their important deliberations.
Mother’s Day Celebrations Week 2, Term 2
With Mother’s Day liturgies and celebrations taking place next week, we encourage the students to reflect on the positive impact of so many great women in our lives. While this is a cause for great joy and gratitude, for some there is also a sense of loss and grief to be considered. If your son or family might be affected in this way please feel free to contact the Counselling or Pastoral Care Teams through Year Coordinators or myself.
