From the Acting Assistant Principal

Years 10-12

Ella Price

Term 1 was our longest term on-site in the past two years.  This was challenging in its own way, however, an achievement for all members of our community with so much to celebrate!

At the end of last term our teachers met to review our engagement data for Term 1.  In year level teams we reflected on year level trends in attendance, learning behaviours, Pivot data, DARE posts and Snapshot task data.  Teachers reviewed the data and set goals for their classes for Term 2.

There was such energy in our community as we came back to school last week!  Our students and teachers were back, refreshed and ready for another term.

I would like to thank our Careers, Transition and Pathways Manager, Robyn Boardman, for her enormous effort in putting together the VCE Careers Expo excursion for our Year 11 and 12 students last week.  Careers education has been difficult in the last few years as we were unable to access our regular opportunities, such as excursions.  This has made it difficult at times for our students to be optimistic about what options the future holds for them.  It was great to speak to VCE students as they came back from the excursion full of hope and aware of the opportunities available to them as they leave Auburn High School.

Over the past two weeks our VCE students have had protected time to reflect on their Term 1 academic and engagement data.  Students participated in a reflection session facilitated by their Year Level Leaders, Angelina Wong and Luke Dellorso.  Students considered their data from Term 1, the strategies that had helped support them to progress, and reflected on the goals that they hope to achieve in the remainder of Term 2.  Reflection activities support our students to directly interact with their data, supporting them to be autonomous as they move through the year.

We had an incredible amount of DARE Posts in Week 1 of this term.  Congratulations to all of our students who have been recognised for upholding our school DARE values.  Small actions can have a huge difference on our peers, teachers and the members of our community.  These should not be underestimated.  In particular, I would like to thank all of the students who volunteered to support our teachers at last week’s Information Night.  You were honest, enthusiastic and inspiring to our future students, parents and families.  Thank you!

Thank you to the Senior School for your support over the last two weeks.  I’ve really enjoyed working with you all during Mr Pritchard’s absence.  I wish you the best for the remainder of Term Two (albeit just 19 learning days left before exams!) so that you can set yourself up successfully for your course counselling process later in the year.
