Term 1 Week 10 2022 - Friday 8th April

What have we been up to? 

Wow! It’s hard to believe that we are already at the Term 1 holidays. We have achieved so much in the last 10 weeks and all the 1/2 teachers are immensely proud of what every student has achieved this term. We hope everyone has enjoyed this term (I know the teachers have) and learned lots of new things including new ways of adding and subtracting numbers, how we can use place value to represent small and large numbers, how animals change throughout their lives, that our brains are capable of amazing things, that writing can be used to persuade and to recount events that have happened and all about Japanese culture.

It has certainly been a busy term but one that we can all be very proud of. Take the time these holidays to rest and sharpen your saws before Term 2 quickly arrives.

What is coming up?

Reading

In Reading in Term 2 we are going to be continuing working on re-tells and how we can explain what has happened in a text by focussing on the who, what, when, where and why. We will also be introducing inferential questioning and getting students to investigate how they can use their existing knowledge to answer questions from texts.

Writing

Next term we are going to be introducing Descriptive Writing and how we can use different language features to describe everyday objects, toys and wild animals. We are going to be investigating how adjectives can be used to describe different things and paint a mental picture in the mind of a reader.

Maths 

Next term in Maths we are going to be investigating Time and beginning to recognise time to the hour, half past, quarter to and quarter past. We will also be seeing how different times are used in our school routine and in other aspects of our lives. In addition (that’s a maths pun), we are going to be continuing developing our addition and subtraction strategies. 

Inquiry & Science

Next term we are excited to announce two brand topics for Inquiry and for Science. In Inquiry we will be exploring how things have changed over time. We will be looking at a range of different changes that have occurred over time including how technology, transport, communication and many more things have changed. For Science we will be investigating changes in natural landscape and looking at how the environment, particularly in Australia has changed.

Important reminders:

• Swimming will be starting in Week 1 of Term 2
• Please contact your child’s teacher if you are wanting to be a parent helper during the swimming lessons.
• The wearing of Hats at recess and lunch won’t be compulsory in Term 2 but you are welcome to wear a hat if you feel like you want to.
• If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child's classroom teacher through Compass or via the school email and it will be passed on to them.
