Lights, Camera ... ROXY!

Semester 1 in Performing Arts at RPPS!

It's been a fun and fulfilling semester in the Performing Arts room!

Preps have been experimenting with recognising and making sounds that are long and short, loud and soft, and high and low. They also started learning about beat and rhythm and practiced clapping, moving, and playing along to the beat and rhythms in different kinds of music.

In grade 1/2, students learnt about music notes and how to read and use quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests to make and play different rhythms. We discussed the different reasons that people make music and explored celebrations from around the world, learning how to sing, play and dance to some songs from different special occasions.

Grade 3 and 4 students explored different genres of music and learnt how to read music notes on the stave. We studied rock, rap and RnB music, and learnt how to play famous riffs from those genres. Students had many opportunities to practice recognising notes on the stave  and learn how to read and play short pieces of music. Lastly, the grade 4s did some very interesting research into their community and how listening habits change and evolve over time.

In grades 5 and 6, students have been studying the history of music and learning about famous and courageous musicians from different music eras. They have added the 1960s and 1970s to their music history knowledge base, and have even had a go at playing some famous riffs and chord progressions from those eras on the ukuleles.

The High Abilities Music Group have been working hard to learn a song as a band. They've made great progress so far, learning to play a whole song together and remembering all their different chord progressions, vocal melodies, and drum beats. Well done!
