The end of Term 1 is fast-approaching and the Grade 4 teachers have taken some time to reflect on the year so far. We are incredibly proud of the students effort and progress. Throughout Term 1, Grade 4 students have been focusing on the purpose, structure and language features of poetry. Students have become familiar with each stage of the writing process, and have experimented with a range of devices and deliberate word play to write creative poems. Here are just a few of the many amazing poems written by our Grade 4 students:
The Grade 4 students have also been exploring the purpose, structure and language features of procedural texts. Students have been writing procedures for a range of topics of their interest that include a title, goal, list of ingredients and materials, steps in order and a conclusion.
Students have been building their reading stamina each day, working hard to achieve their reading goals. Students have been learning how to self-monitor and self-correct while reading and have been exploring a range of strategies to solve unknown words.
We are so proud of everyone's effort during each Reading lesson!
In Maths, students have been developing their counting and place value skills. Students have been using a variety of problem solving skills and hands on activities to identify and continue number patterns. Students have also spent this term modelling, expanding, comparing and renaming numbers by using a range of materials.
In Inquiry, students have been investigating how emotional responses vary and how to interact positively with others in different social situations. Students have been learning to apply various strategies for working cooperatively.
Students have been exploring healthy habits including the benefits of a healthy mind, amount of sleep and physical activity. Students have been working hard to prepare a garden where they will be growing and maintaining their own plants and vegetables. Students have spent some time conducting research, and getting their hands dirty by pulling out unwanted weeds! Gardens will be ready for planting next term!
