Year 7 Camp

Halls Gap

Our Year 7s travelled to Halls Gap from 21st to 23rd March for their first school camp together as secondary school students. They were blessed with amazing Autumn weather during their fun-filled three days. Our teachers and staff who joined the Year 7s on their camp - Mrs Plews, Miss Dridan, Mr Green, Mr Tatchell, Megan and Hoops - were delighted with the way the students represented the school through their participation in such fun and challenging activities.

On the first day, our students split into two groups to begin the morning with a bush walk through the amazing landscape that Halls Gap has to offer. One group hiked up to Chatauqua Peak, while the others went to view the Venus Baths. After arriving at the Norval Camp, our Year 7s prepared themselves for even more physical activities: canoeing on Lake Bellfield or abseiling down a cliff face. As day progressed to night, our students went on yet another walk, before versing each other in a trivia competition.

Our Year 7s woke on Tuesday 22nd March to their next round of activities: canoeing for the second group and a high ropes course at the camp. Mr Schier and Chappy arrived to see how our students were traveling, and joined in on the activities! After lunch, everyone traveled to the Halls Gap Zoo where they experienced the Reptile Encounter. Our students recorded as many of the scientific names of the animals as they could - Tara Allen and Amelia St Mart recorded the most, with a whopping 67 animals! On the way home, everyone treated themselves to the famous Halls Gap ice creams, before concluding the day by watching either a movie or the cricket.

The third and final day of camp began with a final round of abseiling or high ropes for those students who were yet to have a go. Many of our students braved the "Leap of Faith" on the high ropes course, and our abseilers saw Steph Clee speed down the cliff the fastest! After lunch, our students boarded the bus back to school, to conclude what was an amazing first camp at Beaufort Secondary College.

What we did on camp!

A recount by Pippa Vandenberg and Parker Devries (Year 7 students)

When we arrived, we went on a hike to the Venus Baths. We did four activities over three days. The activities included abseiling, a high ropes course, canoeing and going to the zoo. On the end of the first day we all went on a camp night walk, where we saw kangaroos, emus, possums, deer and a sugar glider! On the second day at the zoo, we wrote down the Latin names of the animals. On the second night, we watched Shrek, but a few people chose to watch the cricket instead. Overall, it was an amazing camp!
