House Reports

Flagstaff

It has been a busy first term for sport and fantastic to see the flagstaff students get involved in the interschool sport days, academies, athletics and swimming sport carnivals. Student leaders have been working hard to get students to involve themselves in what the school has to offer and should be proud of the efforts in this regard.

It was sensational to see this leadership contribute to the house experiencing success in the athletics finishing 1st in the overall house placing.

Amazing to see the increase in participation on this day coming from 5th in the swimming sports carnival a few weeks ago, to 1st place in the house overall points for athletics and could not have been achieved without the help of the student leaders and flagstaff students challenging themselves and getting involved.

It was a fun day had by all who got involved and excellent to see students with a range of ability’s giving events their best shot.

Incredible efforts by James Duncan and Mercy Smith who were both flagstaff athletics age group champions on the day as well as a special mention to the following flagstaff students whose efforts were huge on the day:

Jaiden Wells, Harrison Dews, Georgia Hand, Lilly Singleton, Nicholas Annett, Georgia Dalton, Oliver Annett, Logan McLeod, Shona Noske-Poulton, Hannah Van Zyl and Carla Van Zyl.

Thank-you to all staff, parents and students who helped out on the day, your participation/ support was appreciated.

Thanks

The Flagstaff Team

Childers

Transitioning into 2019 proved a little cumbersome for our Childers house and staff as we waited patiently for the completion of B wing renovations. Our team demonstrated resilience and patience, as it all came together…. the wait was most certainly worth it! We now have a lovely new Childer’s Office with plenty of space for student meetings and interactions, the occasional breakfast and areas to display trophies and other Childer’s memorabilia. In addition to the office, B wing also boasts some lovely new classrooms that can be opened up or divided with concertina doors. Lisa Douglas set up an official ribbon cutting ceremony to formally open the new office, which the students enjoyed!

Childers have had a great year with some impressive participation in our two major carnival events; Swimming and Athletics Carnivals. Congratulations to our Childers students and teachers for showing team spirit by dressing up in yellow and projecting a positive and encouraging attitude on the day! We managed to sneer 3rd place at the swimming carnival which is most impressive. Well done team!

We would like to recognise several of our Childers students for recent achievements. Congratulations to the Future Leaders of Industry Recipients; Samara Howie, Ali Rowe, Sophie O’Brien, Zacc Dwyer, Grace Szegi, Makayla Lowther, Emily Ward. Also, to our brave Childers stand-up comedians who recently performed their magic at Class Clowns 2019; Jake Matthews and Anna Barker.

On Wednesday, Year 7 students returned from an eventful 3 day camp in Campaspe Downs in Kyneton. The camp was jam-packed full of activities including canoeing, a giant flying fox, rock climbing wall, low-rope obstacles, team-building/leadership challenges, and Aeroball. Students were encouraged to further develop respect for others, enthusiastic participation, positive attitudes, resilience during times of angst and fatigue, and lastly, the ability to meet new people and develop and strengthen relationships. The experience gave teachers a similar encounter. We wish all Year 8 students and teachers the best for their camp next week. They will be heading off to Norval Camp in Halls Gap.
