Year 8 Ceramics
For their first assessment task in Year 8 Ceramics, students were given the task of creating a relief tile which represented an iconic landmark from around the world.
They then had the challenge of glazing these tiles, which is not an easy thing to do.
Some lovely coloured tiles were produced and will be exhibited in our Art Show next month.
Year 7 Boys Basketball
On the 30th August the Year 7 boys went to the Knox Basketball Stadium in Boronia to undertake the inter-school competition. There were two boys’ teams who played hard all day with only five players on each team.
The A Team played really well, especially when they were the shortest team out of the competition. The opening game was Yarra Hills.
The boys played really well as a team and were leading the game at half time. At the end, the game was tied 18-18. In game two we played against a much taller and experienced Lilydale team and lost 11-38. Monbulk was our third game and the boys played very well in this game coming out the victors 20-16 . The last game was against another Lilydale team, which was the toughest team in the pool. We lost 13-61. Well done boys, you played extremely well the whole day!
The B team competed very hard all day and tried their best in all games. The first game was close with the boys almost getting over the line, losing 11-18 against Upper Yarra. Game two was quite tough for the boys, playing against Lilydale. We struggled all game, ending up losing 7-48. In the last game the boys started off extremely well having the early lead, but only having five players all day meant the boys were tired and Yarra Hills ran away with the game 12-31. Excellent job to all the boys, especially to Tyler Neumann who scored most if not all of the points for the day!

Year 7 Library
Recently, a group of our Year 7 students participated in a fantastic program being run by the Healesville Library. The program's focus was Archaeology and the various techniques and applications used in the field to learn about past civilisations or the stories behind discovered artefacts.
Students took advantage of the nice weather and walked to the library from school. On arrival they were greeted by an array of archaeological investigations and once they had been briefed on the techniques they would need to apply, students were divided into working teams.
Each team worked through the investigations and drew their individual conclusions. It was very interesting to hear the different theories and opinions developed by the groups. Once the challenge was completed, we came together and discussed our conclusions. The true origins of the artefacts were revealed and some agreed that their version of the truth was better, whilst others were thrilled with the revelation that interpretation can be so varied.
The walk back to school was full of interesting chatter about what they’d learnt, with some students finding a passion for history that they previously hadn’t explored.
We are very grateful for the opportunity to participate in this program and it was certainly an extremely valuable experience for the students.
