Principal Post

From the Principal. . .

Dear Families,

Book Week is such an exciting time for our students! Across these past few days the school has been immersed  in a range of Book Week activities. We launched the week on Monday with a fabulous Book Week Parade! Students and staff dressed up as one of their favourite book characters. The effort that many went too was amazing! Later in the day teachers and leaders swapped classes and roles and read their favourite book to the students. This year's Book Week theme is "Reading is my Secret Power". My  favourite book is Love You Forever  by Robert Munsch and it was great to be able to share this book  with 1/2P.  When I took it from the bookshelf at home, having bought it over 25 years ago, my 21 year old son said very enthusiastically that it was his favourite picture book as well! He enjoyed listening to my wife and I reading it to him and his siblings and later reading it over and over! We all have our favourite books and enjoy hearing them again!   So parents continue to read to your children often, read  to them and with them. Reading is a great family activity  and brings many benefits. Most importantly, reading can bring  so much enjoyment!!

My thanks to Georgina Torrisi our very passionate Library teacher for her wonderful organisation.

Head Lice

It has come to our attention that head lice or nits are present in our school. Would you please check your child's hair as soon as possible and, if head lice or nits are detected, commence a recommended treatment.

Could you please continue to check your child's hair and other family members thoroughly over the next couple of weeks so that the spread of head lice can be controlled and prevented.

School Counsellor

Welcome to Tara Stieven- Taylor who will begin as our Student Counsellor this week. She will see some students each Wednesday. Tara is completing her Masters in Counselling at Monash and will complete her placement with us.

Depending on demand, we will have another Student Counsellor.

If you have interest in your child seeing a student counsellor please  contact your child's teacher and/or our Wellbeing Leader Mr Ru at rlameijn@sjvmulgrave.catholic.edu.au

Please note our School Psychologist Jeff continues to see students in his role on Monday and Thursday.

Car park - Safety

I ask again for everyone to be mindful of safety during pickup and drop off. I encourage you to use St John's Way for the 'Kiss & Drop' as it is much quicker. If picking up children from the Parish car park please ensure that you get out of your cars to collect your children and take them safely to your vehicle.  Please exit the car park onto Police Road carefully and be mindful of pedestrians and bike riders.  Turning left onto Police Road is clearly a safer practice.
