Swimming Carnival Success!

Despite the recent rainfall and having to reschedule our swimming carnival, the Junior School Swimming Carnival proved a huge success. With an emphasis on participation and team spirit our students showed the College and House team pride by swimming in a number of 25m, 50m, 100m heats across the four strokes.

We congratulate and recognise every student for trying their hardest in the pool on Tuesday. It was great to see the number of students who exhibited genuine satisfaction.  A wonderful sign of the culture that exists within our school community.  We also acknowledge our students who spectated and cheered on their peers on the side of the pool for the day.

A special mention goes to our Year 2 students who were great risk takers and competed in the 25 metre races.  For many of them, this was probably their first school race and we hope to see them lining up for the 50 metres next year.

House Results are:

In first place, Molloy with a point score of 1100 points. A great achievement!

In second place, Laurentian, with Kilian third and Donovan fourth.  Well done!

IPSSO Week 4

Junior Girls Soccer

The girls played well as a team and passed the ball effectively. A win of 8-0 against Mount Annan Christian College (MACC) who performed well in defence, their goalie saving some good goals.

Congratulations on the win girls.

Junior Basketball

This week, unfortunately, saw the Junior Basketball team being defeated by MACC. The final score was 16-9. The players were disappointed that they were unable to capitalise on their scoring opportunities but took comfort that each player did not give up. The players look forward to next week’s challenge where they will continue to display great sportsmanship towards each other and do St Gregory’s College proud!

Senior Basketball- SGC 28 def Mount Annan Christian College or MACC 12

This week we came up against a strong team.  It took us until the second quarter to find our groove and to build a solid lead. Special mentions to Lee Ombina and Annalise Elasi who both played an outstanding game. Lee was able to control the speed of the game and his shooting was accurate, putting valuable points on the scoreboard.  Annalise was able to continuously apply defensive pressure which resulted in multiple turnovers which we converted into points.

Well done team!!! Keep it going!!!

Junior Cricket

Round 4  of the Junior Cricket competition saw St Greg’s play Mount Annan Christian College at home. St Greg’s defeated Mount Annan 129 runs to 77. There was some outstanding batting and bowling from the students. From the batting viewpoint Oliver Trevitt scored 25 runs and Will Spencer scored 13 runs and on the bowling front Charlie Farias took 3 wickets and Oliver Trevitt took 2 wickets. Overall, the Junior Cricket team fielded and bowled very well to achieve a win. Well done.

 SGC 3/66 def. MACC 7/22

After a week off due to a bye, the Senior Boys Cricket team were raring to go and keen to prove to the IPSSO competition that they were the real deal. The bye week training session focused on fielding and catching drills, with the hope of tightening the screws and proving the famous quote “catches win matches.”

Another dominant display from the St Greg’s Senior Boys Super 8’s Cricket team in our Round 3 match against Mt Annan Christian College. Winning the toss, Connor decided to bat first to see what our boys could do setting a score and defending with the ball. The slow, wet conditions did not deter our boys setting a big total of 66 off 7 overs. Connor set the platform with a crafty 22* and was supported through the middle order by Joshua (4), Ben (3* not out) and Cohen (3* not out).

SGC didn’t give MACC a sniff at the total. With precise bowling and tight fielding, they restricted them to all out for 22. A great effort with the ball, with all the boys contributing. Marc 0/2, Joshua 2/4, Ethan 1/8, William 1/3.

Junior Oz Tag

St Greg’s 20 def Mount Annan Christian College 2

St Greg’s hosted round 2 of the Junior IPSSO Oztag competition against Mount Annan Christian College. This was a bit of an unknown situation for St Greg’s as we had not played against Mount Annan in previous years. St Greg’s started strong racing out to a lead thanks to tries from Denham Tsagalas, Charlize Potts, Luke Ormerod and Finn Dumesny. As the game progressed, Mount Annan began to spread the ball and a couple of their quicker players made a few breaks which led to a couple of tries. St Greg’s then rallied together and extended their lead eventually taking out the match 20-2.

It was great to see some of the less experienced players build on their confidence through running the ball more and talking to each other in defence. Special mentions to Joseph Issa and Noah McKinnon who showed great teamwork and vision by passing to other female team members rather than scoring tries themselves. These selfless acts of putting others before themselves benefited the team as female tries in Oztag are worth 2 points. Great job boys! Next week’s game is at home against Oran Park Anglican College.

SGC 14 def MACC 3

This week saw us come up against a team that we had never faced before, MACC. From the first kick-off it was obvious it was going to be a fast paced game but St Greg’s kept the pressure on until the final play.

We were strong in defence with some outstanding tags and creative plays in attack. Many team members scored but special mention must go to Ashton Tsagalas for his impressive hat trick and Alexandra Northdurfter, Connor Potts and Harry Hoyle for their double whammy.

Senior Girls Soccer

This week, the performance of the Senior Girls Soccer Team showed improvement . While the 5-1 scoreline at the hands of Mount Annan Christian College was not as we had hoped, we had many close calls and near misses that would have narrowed the score significantly. The girls never gave up and worked much better as a team. The most pleasing aspect was how much the girls knew they had improved and were proud of themselves, as was their coach. Their dribbling and passing were much stronger and our effort has given us confidence for the games to come.
