School Council

News..

The school council are looking at ways of broadening our communications and visibility in the school community. As a part of this plan, there will be a monthly communication post each School Council meeting in the newsletter, with a brief summary of the main points. We are looking at other ways of engaging members of our school community. Keep an eye/ear out for upcoming information. If you would like to contact the school council with any questions, queries or comments, please send an email to woodend.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au

The last school council Meeting was held on Wednesday 26 June.

It was a dual meeting, combining with an extraordinary meeting. During the extraordinary meeting, the selection panel for the principal appointment, made a recommendation to the school council. The School Council supported the recommendation in order to appoint the successful applicant - Diana Ellis. On behalf of the School Council, I would like to congratulate Diana on her appointment, and look forward to continuing working with her to support Woodend Primary in achieving great learning outcomes for all students.

Update on School Crossings Supervision

The school has had confirmation from the Shire Local Laws regarding supervision of our three pedestrian crossings:

  1. The High Street crossing is the only supervised crossing
  2. Both the car park service lane and Owen St crossings are un-supervised crossings
  3. Supervisors will be directed by the Shire to only supervise the High St crossing as covering both this and the service lane places children using the crossings at risk.

For all crossings (supervised and un-supervised) when flags are displayed drivers:

  • Must not overtake a vehicle stopping or stopped at the crossing.
  • Must stop if a child or adult is about to cross or is crossing, even if there is no crossing supervisor.
  • Must stop if a hand held “Stop” sign is displayed.
  • Must proceed only when all children and adults, including the supervisor, are clear of the crossing.
  • Must approach at a speed slow enough to stop safely, if necessary.
  • Should always watch out for children near schools.
