Junior School Council Fundraiser for Clifton Creek Primary School
A big thank you to our students and families for supporting the Clifton Creek Primary School community during our recent fundraiser. Along with other network schools, the $828.20 dollars raised by our Camelot Rise student community last Friday will assist their school community in getting back on their feet. During the school holidays a local Principal, Charles Spicer @ Mulgrave PS was in contact with the Principal @ Clifton Creek PS and they are extremely grateful of the support of the many schools that have supported their community. Below is a copy of the email:
‘Thank you for your lovely email of support. It has indeed been a devastating time for our school community, but feel blessed that everyone is safe at this stage. It has been so heartening to firstly learn that the government intends to rebuild our beautiful little school, but also to have people like you offer so much support. At this stage it is difficult to know exactly what is the best way to utilise the support offered, but this will become clearer over the next days/weeks. We will certainly be welcoming all support and once we know where we will be located in the early stages of the school year and have a full picture of the support offered, we will be in touch with everyone.’
We feel very lucky that we are able to help another community that has experienced such heartache. Thank you Camelot Rise PS.
Camelot Forest Mosaic Mural
Our Camelot Forest Mosaic Mural is now complete!
This piece of work led by our talented Andy Pullar (Education Support / Integration Aide) has been 20 months in the making. This process has involved student, parents and staff throughout the journey. A true community event that will form part of the history @ Camelot Rise PS.
To say thanks to Andy is simply not enough. Andy has put in over 800 hours to create this. Yes, 800 hours! The majority of these hours were during his own time including nights, weekends and school holidays.
We will be holding an official grand opening of the ‘Fellowship Garden and the Camelot Forest Mosaic Mural’ in the future to recognise these important events in our school's history.
Below is an email from Andy Pullar (Education Support / Integration Aide) sent to all staff:
'It’s finished! After twenty months and hundreds of hours of work by children, families and staff, our ‘Camelot Forest’ mosaic mural project is at last complete!
‘Thank you so much to all of your support, without which this could not have been achieved. Thanks to Helen for offering me the opportunity to work with our wonderfully talented students and for her continued support as the project quickly expanded into something much grander than we had anticipated. Thank you to Matt for his immediate enthusiasm and for ensuring the support and resources needed to see the project to completion. Thanks to Haley, Ash, Cameron and Gemma for allowing me repeatedly over the past two years to work with our Foundation students on the design, and for all the teachers across other levels whose students I was also able to work with. Wendy Punay, Linda and Amanda Curtain provided supervision for various class time mosaic sessions, and Sharon and Deb Hong were very generous in applying their previous mosaic during project afternoons.
Since my arrival at Camelot I have been inspired by the enthusiasm staff have shown for the artistic talents of our students, and driven forward by the encouragement of staff, students and their families. A special thanks for the generous donations from Choices Flooring Ferntree Gully ( the Moroney family), Bunnings Warehouse Vermont South, and the staff and management of Nachos Cantina Mt Waverley - so many broken plates! Add to that all the broken crockery and tiles, and we have an artwork the whole community can be very proud of.’
Sincerely,
Andy Pullar
Congratulations to our Swimming Team
A huge congratulations to the Camelot Rise Swimming Team that won the Waverley East Sports Association Swimming competition that was held last Wednesday!
This is a great effort as we were competing against schools with much larger student numbers than ours. We are very proud of these achievements.
A number of our students have progressed to compete in the Monash Waverley Division Swimming competition today (Tuesday). We wish all of these students the best of luck.
Our new look newsletter
We hope that are you enjoying the look and format of our newsletter. Thanks to Kerryn Wardle for researching and developing her skills to enable the school to use this new template for our newsletter.
When you are accessing our newsletter and looking at the photos you will notice a white arrow over some of the photos. If you click on this arrow you will be able to see additional photos. This is a great function that we are most impressed with and we hope you are too!
Learning Together
Parent Professional Learning Opportunities
In Term Two Camelot Rise Primary School will be offering parents the opportunity to participate in a Professional Learning session to further increase their understanding about Literacy in the home and at school.
This Professional Learning session will be conducted in the library and are designed to be an interactive, thought provoking community event that helps to strengthen the important link between home and school. This session will provide parents with the necessary instructional language and techniques to foster reading and writing development in the home and the classroom.
Thank you to our departing School Councillors
At our upcoming March School Council meeting we will be saying thank you and goodbye to a number of School Council members who will be attending their last School Council meeting. We would like to acknowledge:
Kiet Hua, Kim Doan, Tony Goldsmith (Treasurer), Gerard de Vries & Alex Feng.
These people have been a great support and we deeply appreciate their efforts over the past 2+ years (in some cases this has been many more than 2 years!). They have all made their mark and left the school in an excellent place. Thank you!
We would like to welcome and congratulate our six new School Council members for 2020 & 2021:
Keean Braybon, Glen Northey, Cindy Zhou, Anna Earl, Jo Dutoit & Amanda Neary (DET representative).
There is still one casual vacancy for parent representatives to join our school council. Please either send me an email or call me to discuss how you can become part of our school council.
