Principal's Post

Dear Parents,

Earlier in the week an email was sent to all families commenting on the directives received from medical authorities and the Catholic Education Melbourne with regard the Coronavirus and steps to minimise the chance of it spreading.

Students need to be excluded from school if:

 • the person is a confirmed case of novel coronavirus; or

• the person has been in close contact with a confirmed case of novel coronavirus in the past 14 days.

• the person has recently travelled to Wuhan, Hubei province.

If a student or staff member meets one of the above criteria, the Department of Health and Human Services needs to be contacted to discuss further actions via phone at 1300 651 160. The Diocesan Emergency Management Officer must also be contacted. Please inform the Principal’s P.A. Mrs Aylene Robinson of your situation so we can assist with the appropriate connections and be able to confirm that appropriate action has occurred.

The Department of Health and Human Services has developed a factsheet for schools:

Novel coronavirus – Factsheet for schools and early learning centres. The factsheet can be accessed using the following hyperlink:

The college is also conscious of the devastation associated with the bushfires this season. Our prayers are with those who have lost their lives, their homes and their livelihoods. Like so many in the community we are investigating ways to continue supporting those who have been tragically affected by the fires.

The week has been extremely busy with the Year 12 Camp to Foster and the Year 11 Career and Industry Camp in the city. The remainder of the students started on Thursday or Friday. I would particularly like to welcome our new families to Mazenod, the Year 7 students and the new staff who are commencing in 2020.

The college enjoyed some extraordinary VCE results in 2019 and the accolades were made from formal sources. Our 8 students who received 99s, our Humanities, Religious Education, Science and IT Software Application students were acknowledged as performing brilliantly in their respective disciplines and they featured in mainstream media. Attached are hyperlinks to the relevant articles.

Ryan Dean, of Year 10 2019 provided a platform to raise awareness and money for the Blue Ribbon Appeal and that was also acknowledged on the Victoria Police Facebook page.

Another extraordinary achievement was the Mazenod Panthers All Abilities Football Club under the guidance of Phil Ryan which has been nominated for the Victorian Community Sports Awards for 2019. Congratulations to all those who commit so much to the club, players and officials.

Yours sincerely,
