Week 8 Snapshot

English

Reading: We have begun reading our class novel Running Wild, by Michael Morpurgo. By the end of the week we will have read up to the end of Chapter 2, with a focus on summarsing the main ideas in the text so far. 

SUGGESTED HOME LEARNING: Read for 30 minutes. Discuss any text with an adult. Make sure you explain the main ideas of the text. Try to use some of the strategies we have practised in class.

Writing: Grade 6 have been working hard on their narrative writing skills including, personification, relative clauses, dialogue, monologue and planning, writing and editing a narrative.

SUGGESTED HOME LEARNING: Based on the Swing of Change video we have been watching in class, change one or two aspects of the film and write a new narrative. 

Mathematics

We have been focused on mental and written strategies to solve problems involving all four operations. We have used the Singapore method as a different way to approach these questions. 

SUGGESTED HOME LEARNING: Continue to work through personal goals using My Numeracy. Students can also access mathematics work through Mathletics.

Unit of Inquiry

Our current unit of inquiry is How We Organise Ourselves with the central idea 'Leaders Shape Communities'. Students have been learning about types of governments, qualities of effective leaders and the impact of leadership. As this unit is almost completed, students will be given a Summative Assignment to complete in week 9.

 

The next unit of inquiry Sharing the Planet will commence in week 1, term 2.  During this unit, students will learn skills and strategies for conducting effective research. 

Homework

Cycle 3 Homework was set Monday 9th March and is due Wednesday 18th March.

Cycle 4 will be set in the beginning of term 2. 

30 minutes a day of reading at home is highly encouraged.

Students can work on their Essential Assessment My Numeracy goals at home.

Reminders

Children should have Google Classroom notifications turned on to ensure they are receiving communications from their classroom teacher. 

Interschool Sport training and games have been cancelled for the rest of Term 1.

Term 2 Interschool Sport trials are currently postponed.
