A message from the Principal

Welcome back

I want to extend a warm welcome back to SKiPPS to all of our returning families and also to welcome those families who have enrolled at our great school for the first time (including the families of our 51 new Foundation students). I have thoroughly enjoyed taking time during the first three days of term to visit all of our classrooms, chat to students new and old and find out all about the things that have happened over the summer.

Our 372 students have all made a great start to life in their new class groupings thanks to the hard work of our teachers and our CAPSE (Creating A Positive School Environment) program. By taking time at the start of the school year to set clear routines in classrooms and build relationships with classmates, we lay the foundations for a productive, positive year of learning right across the school.

The positivity and calmness throughout the school is a testament to the success of this approach. The new Foundation classes start their school journeys tomorrow and I am so excited to welcome them to SKiPPS and see them settle into their new routines and make new connections over the next few weeks.

Beyond the classroom, we already have a huge first term planned. It was wonderful to see almost 200 community members taking part in the Pride March on Sunday. The march is a great way to demonstrate our school's commitment to acceptance and the inclusion of all of the families that make up our school community.

We also have Jazz in the Park and our School Fete happening in the next month and there is further information later in this newsletter about these great events and the ways that you can support them.

Finally, we start the school year with an update of our school newsletter. We have taken on board feedback about the old newsletter and the limitations of accessing this on mobile devices. We hope that you appreciate the work that has gone into bringing this communication into the 21st century and I would like to thank Robbie Cappuccio, one of our school councillors for helping to make this happen. Our newsletter is our primary form of communication and we ask that parents make the time to read it each fortnight to stay up to date about the many things happening at school. Any feedback on the newsletter would be much appreciated.

I look forward to seeing you all at Jazz in the Park next Tuesday.

Neil Scott, Principal
