Science Update

Junior School

The Junior School students have been busy learning about the water cycle this term in Science.  Students have investigated water characteristics, learnt about run-off and water use, and are now discussing how we can help keep our waterways clean.

All Prep, One and Two students are completing posters on how to keep waterways clean as part of the Barwon Water National Water Week Poster Competition.  Winning posters will be displayed at the Geelong Show and our school will go into the running to win $500 grant. Good luck!

Senior School

Grades 3 / 4 classes have been investigating forces this term through bike maintenance.  In groups students have been learning basic bike maintenance such as pumping up tyres, oiling chains and removing rust.  This week saw students create their own science experiment to investigate the best solution to remove rust from an object.

Garden Report

Last week we continued with our weeding in the morning.  It was quite cold and very wet during the afternoon, so we had some indoor activities in the shed.  The Prep/1’s made some cute garden markers which we will use to help people identify plants in the beds.  They were very excited to see that one of the bean seeds planted the previous week had sprouted.  Hopefully there will be more poking their heads up this week.

The 5/6’s were able to get some lettuce seeds sown and these should do really well in our new hothouse.

Happy Gardening!

Chickens in the Melbourne Show

Grades 5/6 have been learning about chickens and their adaptations.  The 5/6 students have been busy caring for 5 chickens that will be heading to The Royal Melbourne Show these holidays.  The chickens will be judged on their health and egg production.  Our students will also submit a class poster on our chickens.  Don’t forget to pencil a visit to the show, and our chickens, into your holiday plans.

Congratulations to 3/4C who was last week's Nude Food winner.
