From the Commodore's Desk

Winter months, during a period of what many outsiders might presume of less sailing and club activities, appears to be anything but at Princess Royal Sailing Club. Sailing has continued for some, and for others, boats have been prepared for the October to July season ahead. Scrubbing, antifouling and a myriad of repairs to boats, along with maintenance of all associated equipment.

Club boats have also been prepared for the new season which is now upon us. The Board is very grateful for everyone who has been attending to these boats. If I list those I know, I may miss someone who contributed in some way I was not aware of. Thank you - you know who you are.

Another popular social addition to the calendar on several Saturday evenings were Hamburgers on the Deck (Karen Timmins), Pulled Pork Rolls (Grant Tickell), and delicious two course meals (Brett Hawker).  Saturday evening eats whilst the bar was open proved quite successful during winter, so we are looking for others to assist with suggestions and ideas to continue with something simple and easy to prepare.  Previous organisers are now committed to seasonal Saturday events that preclude their involvement. All ideas welcome, participation even more so. Email Mitchell: mitchell@allroads.com.au

During the winter months your Club qualified eleven (11) members as Australian Sailing (AS) Keelboat Instructors. Graduating were Geoffrey Oliver (also qualified as an AS Coach and AS Auditor), Hank Rosendaal, Neil Worrell, Chris Oldham, Karen Timmins, Alan Cohen, Rob Cridge, Harriet Paterson, Wayne Knight, Sarah Liddiard and me.

As a result of these qualifications your Club embarked on Australian Sailing Keelboat Courses for 28 ladies from the SheSails group that began forming earlier in 2019.  Six courses were begun, with another starting this week. On Opening Day evening, five participants graduated, receiving their Certificate of Completion of the combined Start Crewing and Start Helming course. Congratulations to Michelle Ellis, Annette Davis, Dawn Nation, Anni and Yumi Kagi.

Graduating this week were Caroline Preston, Angela Joyce, Teresa Robinson and Tanya Day.

We hope to see many more as the season progresses!

These graduates are keen to continue practicing their sailing skills so will be looking to join other Club activities with our current and new participating members such as:

Your Board has been busy preparing for the new season and ensuring that every effort is made to provide all members with safe, enjoyable sailing and social activities.  Web links to Club Constitution here and By-Laws here

Your Club is run by volunteers, so again, I salute every one of you – our most precious resource.  Thank you.
