Crystal Manning

Crystal Manning (Year 11) has recently been selected to play for Australia as a member of the Inline Hockey Aussie Roos Squad on the international circuit. After a stellar performance at the national Club Wars Competition in Bendigo in March, Crystal was selected to compete in both the Girls Major and Women's Open Teams at the International State Wars competition in America this July.

Crystal has played for South Australia on numerous occasions as both a captain and assistant captain on her chosen teams and has also played at a national level.

Crystal is looking for financial support to get over to the USA for this international tournament, alleviating the cost of the trip.

If you're interested in seeking more information, please contact her directly.

She is excited to represent our school community and her country while there, is thrilled for the experience, as well as the prospect of future opportunities.

Rijken Cup Achievements

A squad of 45 students were selected to participate in a week long sports event for Year 11 and Year 12 students called the Rijken Cup. Students competed in venues across Adelaide in multiple sports; netball, touch football, soccer, basketball, volleyball and table tennis. Endeavour students competed fiercely with values of sportsmanship, leadership and encouragement for all. Overall Endeavour came 4th of 8 Division 1 schools; an incredible combined effort for the week!

Individual coaches have commented on their success below.

Netball

The Year 11 and 12 Netball Girls had been training for over 10 weeks in preparation for this competition, and what a fantastic day it was to start off the Rijken Cup week! The dedication, comradery and professionalism the girls demonstrated not only on the day, but throughout their preparation for the carnival, lead by Captain Kloe Trotter, meant they were outstanding role models for our College. The girls won their first 3 games, but unfortunately lost the semi-final by a small margin, which resulted in us finishing 3rd overall for the day. --

The boys' netball team arrived at the Rijken Cup on the first day of the competition quietly confident after more than two months of intense training. After coming second in 2022, the boys were keen to go one better and win the day! The first game against Prescott gave the team an easy win, with the final score of 24:4. However, with each game played, the competition become tougher!

Endeavour managed to beat both Emmaus and Tyndale for a place in the semi-final against Kings Baptist which also went our way, leading to the boys winning a place in the Grand Final against Cedar College. It was an absolute nail biter! Neither team held the lead for long at any stage of the game and when the final whistle blew, Endeavour was ahead by one point winning the Grand Final and the entire netball competition!

I cannot express how proud I was of the team spirit, support and skill shown by all members of the squad. Let’s do it again in 2024!

Basketball

The Year 11 and 12 SACSA Girls' basketball team displayed growth, teamwork and continued development throughout their carnival last Thursday. We had one win and three losses (2 very narrow losses), not bad for a team mostly comprised of non-basketballers! All girls should be commended for their fair play, encouragement, determination and HUGE effort throughout the day.

Table Tennis

After 8 weeks of training in their sheds our Table Tennis team took on some competition on the final day of Rijken Cup. We had our game plans and had put in some general play practice, but were shell shocked by the serving prowess of the opposing players who had obvious competition experience. After some quick adaptions our boys were able to find their rhythm and throw down the challenge. Alex Hurcombe was awesome all day taking on the oppositions best assault at number 1. He can hold his head very high in the way he showed composure and tactical prowess to push each player he came up against. We were able to win some sets with Jaxon Barr and Lachlan Cossens taking their opportunities against the opposition 3 and 4. Jayden Kabos was courageous, as always, playing smart against his opponents and exposing their weaknesses. The match of the day was against Cedar where the doubles decided the outcome. We pushed them to 3 sets with scores of 12-10 and unfortunately stumbled at the last hurdle. I'm extremely proud of the team work shown by our boys and their respect for the competition.

Volleyball

The Girls' Rijken Cup Volleyball team were a pleasure to coach. They were committed, listened to feedback, displayed humility and demonstrated positive sportsmanship and support for each other. The girls competed fiercely throughout the carnival improving their Volleyball skills and gameplay greatly. The team finished the minor round on top of their pool and faced Temple Christian School (the eventual winners) in the semi final. In a tightly fought game they unfortunately lost in 3 sets by only a few points. The girls should be commended for their efforts and the positive way they represented the school.

The Boys' Volleyball team was comprised of some regular players and some new to the game. Together they trained hard for many weeks to create an exceptional line up that looked professional in their transitions. In the minor round games they set the court ablaze with their powerful spikes and agile back court saves. Khang and Basant led the team strongly with their exceptional setting, while Kevin showed that short guys can jump - and spike! They progressed to the semi finals, and whilst two players were cramping, they battled hard, losing to the eventual champions. They finished equal 3rd, but showed themselves to be the 2nd best team on the day. The team exuded an unwavering spirit throughout the tournament, delivering precision plays and showcasing outstanding teamwork.

Touch Football

After many weeks of training, the Year 11 and 12 Touch Football team took on Temple Paralowie in their opening game of the Rijken Cup. Two touchdowns to Ethan Hughes in the first 5 minutes got our team off to a great start. After that, the game was quite even, but Endeavour ended up winning 5-3. We then played eventual carnival champions, Cedar College, in the second game. We found this game quite tough going down 7-2, but learning quite a lot along the way. These results qualified us for a semi-final berth against another strong opponent, Kings Baptist Grammar School. Although we didn’t win, it was a very competitive game, with the final score 4-3, advantage to Kings. At the end of the Carnival, we finished a very respectable equal 3rd. Well done to all students in the Touch Football team. Your enthusiastic and competitive approach did Endeavour proud!
