Junior School Report

Heather McClure

Our students are engaged in so many amazing things each and every week, which means by the time we reach the end of the year and reflect on the year that was, we are already unable to remember all of the amazing achievements and events.

With that being said, we have shifted our Junior School assembly focus to ensure timely celebrations. Each term we begin with a full Junior School assembly. The focus of these assembly’s is to prepare for the term ahead, address expectations, re-setting after the holidays and looking forward to ‘what’s on’ for the term ahead.

At the end of each term, we again come together as a Junior school and reflect upon ‘the term that was’ celebrating the highlights and achievements of each year level. As part of this, our staff nominate students for ‘Student of the term’. The students recognized, are those who continually demonstrate the values of the school, respect, determination and excellence.

These assemblies are student led, with our Junior school leadership team taking a vital role in the planning and facilitation of each assembly. Across the year so far, we have witnessed so much growth in our student leaders who have developed such confidence in standing in front of their peers to speak and lead our assemblies. Our most recent assembly saw the student band ‘Mercury’ perform, knocking all of socks off with an original song of theirs

During the first week of term 3 we celebrated NAIDOC week. It was fabulous to see so many students engaged in the activities across the week, especially the smoking ceremony to close our celebrations on the Friday.

During the first week of term we also held our year 9 into 10 course information night. Since then there has been a real buzz around the Junior School with students discussing with each other and staff their pathway plans and ideas for subject selection. Students will be engaged in course counselling interviews on Thursday 10th August and will be expected to attend school ONLY at their interview time. Prior to this, should you have any questions around subject selection please do not hesitate to contact Jessica Hollands, Luke Caldwell or myself.

Looking further into the future, our year 7 & 8 students are busily planning their social alongside Ms Beale and Ms Gepp their year level leaders. The social will be held on Thursday 31st August and more information will follow. Students are also busily training for State School Spectacular with their performance in Melbourne later this term.

I am really looking forward to sharing with you in the coming weeks an update of all of the fantastic activities and achievements of the students in our Junior School.
