Thank you as always to those students and families eagerly participating and continuing to log their books, we hope you are enjoying personalizing and keeping your profile pages up to date.  There have been so many wonderful book reviews published, it shows just how much you are enjoying the books and hopefully discovering some new authors and genres.

The total number of books read so far is 3625!

Congratulations to this week’s top 5 readers;

Hetav from 4K

Michael from 5D

Braxton S from 1B

Levi from FE

Braxton R from 2B

Collectively Grade 2 remain the challenge leaders with a total of 1295 books read.

Congratulations to 2B as they approach the 1000 mark! Way to go!

What's on in the Library

We hope you are enjoying browsing and have been able to borrow some of the new titles in the Library over the last couple of weeks. We have also upgraded the Graphic Novel area with new bookcases and a variety of new titles. There are still LOTS more to come that we hope will both interest and excite you.

Reading for at least 10 minutes every day is proven to exercise your brain and improve your memory!

Research shows that reading about a character's thoughts and feelings makes you kinder!

Books can help you see vivid pictures in your mind so you feel like you are actually immersed in another time or place.  The whole world comes alive as your reading journey continues through each page.

National Simultaneous Storytime

Last Wednesday at 11am we all tuned in for a special livestream event from the new Sydney Zoo.

The Speedy Sloth was read by the author Rebecca Young and illustrator Heath McKenzie to celebrate The National Simultaneous Storytime event.

Just in case you missed it in the classroom or were absent on the day, here is the youtube link to the streamed event.

We are keeping all of our fingers and toes crossed for an opportunity to host Heath McKenzie as part of our annual Author visit next year!

There are copies of The Speedy Sloth available to borrow in the Library now.

The Great Book Swap

Please don’t forget to our Great Book Swap event to support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF).  As part of the event Karoo has been assigned to the MARANYDJALK house – this translates as Stingray.

The Great Book Swap is a fantastic way to celebrate reading locally, learn more about Indigenous Languages and culture, while raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF).

This year the ILF are aiming to raise $180,000! In registering to host a Great Book Swap event Karoo will be actively helping to gift the target of 18,000 new, carefully chosen books to children in remote Communities across Australia.

Consider what book or books you would like to donate to this wonderful charity initiative then place them in the clearly signed hamper in the office foyer.

The idea is to swap a favourite book in exchange for a gold coin donation.

The book swap event will be held in the school Library on:

Tuesday 14th November, 8:45am – 3:45pm

Students will be invited to visit with their class during the day and bring along their gold coin donations to browse and select a book they would like to take home.

If you would like to learn more about the Indigenous Literacy Foundation and the amazing community led work they carry out, you can visit ; https://edu.greatbookswap.org.au/
