2023 Melton Youth Forum

Our student had a the privilege to attend Melton Young Communities Youth Forum which occurred on 8 June 2023. The Youth conference was designed to be interactive and generate important dialogue on the opportunities that build the capacity of youth through leadership and consultation with organisations for local township planning.

Melton Youth Forum was co-designed and led by the Youth Advisory Committee which provided young people with an insight on social connection and cohesion.

Students were supported by Ms Stone, Student Voice Leader; Ms Wood, Student Wellbeing and Engagement; and Ms Ioane and Ms Alaak, Community Liaison Officers.  Another Youth Summit will be attended by our student in Term 3, which will occur at the University of Melbourne organised by Together for Humanity.

Pasifika and Maori Family Fono

Melton Secondary College hosted an evening with our Pasifika and Maori family community, with the aim to build meaningful community connectedness between families and MSC staff. Nights like this are integral to building a consistently positive high school experience for our college community as a whole.

The event was well attended by our Pasifika and Maori families, and is a great way for the parents to connect with school leaders and staff members who organised this successful programs.  Many thanks to our Maori and Pasifika Liaison Officer, as well as teachers who helped making the event fruitful.

Video Games and Activation Club

Video games and Activation Club has been a fantastic recreational space for many of our students as some showcase their talent through Karaoke and other activities in the space.  The space is a social learning area where students work collaboratively, interacting and cultivating each other’s talent in a supportive environment at recess and lunchtime.  The program is popular with approximately 100 students attending.  Students get to connect with new friends as this provides social and school connectedness.

As the school holidays approach, our students will be participating in the activities organised by the Melbourne Victory Football Club, Western Bulldogs Community Foundation, Melton Young Communities and North Melbourne Football Club.

2023 Refugee Week Celebration

National Refugee Week is celebrated each Year to commemorate Refugee lived experiences on 20 June. Refugee Week is an opportunity to reflect on Australia's long history of resettling refugees and others in humanitarian need, and acknowledge the many contributions they make to Australia. Refugees have brought diversity to our cities, towns and suburbs. This diversity has helped create the Australia that we know and enjoy today.

Melton Secondary College has large number of migrant and refugee communities who enrich our school with diverse heritage and cultural experience which contributes to our thriving and vibrant school community.
