Student Leadership Updates
Captain morning welcomes
Our School and House Captains have an exciting opportunity to build their leadership profile and rapport with members of our school community!
As of last week, School and House Captains will be present on our school gates (admin and Southside gates only) on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. You will see/hear our captains greeting community members to our school between 8:40am - 8:55am. If you are greeted by a captain or a staff member, please respond politely. Polite ways of responding sound/look like:
- "Good Morning"
- "How are you?"
- "Hope you have a lovely day"
- Auslan sign for 'Good morning'
- Auslan sign for 'How are you?'
- A friendly wave
SRC Problem Solvers
Our SRC has been developing an exciting student initiative in the form of ACS Problem Solvers! The SRC has met to discuss potential issues they see students needing help with and have together developed a range of strategies they can use to support them when faced with such issues. Attached you will see our ACS Problem Solving Wheel which the SRC has worked together to develop. The SRC has spent the last couple of weeks learning about how to help others solve problems and role playing different scenarios. SRC members will be rostered on to help students solve minor problems out in in the yard from Week 6 onwards.
Some minor problems our SRC will be helping to solve:
- supporting students to engage in play with peers
- checking in on students who look to be in the blue zone
- leading small games for students (duck, duck goose, tiggy, what's the time Mr Wolf, Simon Says etc.)
- tying shoelaces
- collecting/returning lost property
- assisting students to use mindfulness strategies (I can be calm, volcano breathing, 5 senses)
- supporting students to make decisions by using strategies like Paper, Scissors, Rock
- redirecting students if they are needing a break from another student
Students will see our SRC problems solvers across different locations during outside play. Students will be encouraged to seek out SRC problem solvers to assist them with simple tasks. Well done to all SRC members who have shown great commitment in learning how to be a problem solver at our school.
Performing Arts
In Performing Arts this semester we have been learning about Dance and Drama.
In Dance, we have been learning how to use our bodies to tell a story through the use of locomotor and non-locomotor movements. We have also been investigating the elements of dance to choreograph our own ideas. We have had the opportunity to present our dance pieces to each other and use a range of feedback techniques to help discuss and refine our work.
In Drama, we have been learning about the combination of voice and movement to explore roles and situations. We have explored different areas of the arts to use as stimuli to guide our acting and writing. We have evaluated the importance of scripts in drama and used them to create and present pre-made and original stories.
