Learning and Teaching in 5/6G

Train Like a Vixen!

On Thursday the 11th of May, the 5/6 students were fortunate to attend the ‘Train Like a Vixen’ Netball clinic.  Some of the students of 5/6G have written some reflections to share with the school community:

On the 11th of May, we went on an excursion to the State Netball and Hockey Centre where we got to do a series of activities relating to netball. It was called 'Train Like A Vixen’. We worked on our footwork, shooting, defending and even played a game at the end. The State Netball and Hockey Centre is where the Melbourne Vixens, the netball team train. There were altogether 6 rotations and 1 game at the end. We were split up into 4 groups and each got a go at all the different rotations. My favourite activity was definitely the game at the end where we were split into two groups and each had to line up in our groups at the goal. There were 21 cones in the middle of the court and everytime someone from your team scored a goal, they got to collect a cone for their team. Whoever had the most cones at the end, won. This game was called 21 cones. This was a really fun time for the whole 5/6 level and we all got to experience the game netball!

On Thursday the 11th of May the 5/6s went on an excursion to the State Netball and Hockey Centre in the city. While we were there we met some friendly Netball coaches to train us. We did 6 rotations while we were there. They included foot work, ball handling, recovery, an obstacle course, passing, shooting, running, defending, positions, games, warming up and different techniques. We got a tour of the netball stadium which was really interesting to see all the massive courts and facilities they have there. We took a look at the incredible history of Netball and the Vixens in the glass in the hallways as we walked past. At the end we got to play a netball game with our friends. The game was so thrilling to play in and was so enjoyable. I was GA (Goal Attack) and got some shots in as well. Overall the day was amazing and I had so much fun.
