Principal's Message

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,

The Mother's Day Breakfast, held last Friday morning, was a lovely way to gather as a community and celebrate the mums in our school. There was a great turnout of families with the hall being quite full for a good period of time. I hope all our mums enjoyed celebrating Mother's Day with their families on Sunday.

A special thanks to those dads who assisted with the cooking, preparing and serving of the breakfast. We couldn't have done it without you.

Staff Professional Learning

It is essential that teachers are continually fine tuning and updating their professional knowledge and skills to ensure they are offering the best learning opportunities to their students.

Today Jan Walker, a numeracy learning consultant, worked with COHR staff specifically around teaching students the many maths strategies they should know before leaving primary school. We acknowledged that all students will learn at different rates and that there are differing abilities within each class. We looked at the Victorian Curriculum and mapped out how these strategies need to be taught over the seven years at primary school.

The teachers and Learning Support Officers found the professional learning extremely valuable and are keen to put their new learning into practice.

District Cross Country

Congratulations to the thirty-nine Year 3-6 students who competed at the district cross country last Monday. The weather was very kind to us, which made for a pleasant run in Norton's Park. All of our children are to be commended for their efforts. There were seven students who ran in the top twelve of their age group and these children will now be invited to attend the division cross county on 31st May.

Family Faith Nights

Over the next two Tuesday evenings we will be hosting Family Faith Nights for our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students and their families. Our Prep Family Faith Night will be held on Tuesday 23rd May and our Year 1/2 night will be held on Tuesday 30th, starting at 6:30pm.

2024 Enrolments

Enrolments for Prep 2024 are now being accepted. We would ask that if you have a child commencing Prep next year that you collect and return an enrolment form at your earliest convenience. Similarly, if you have neighbours or friends looking to enrol their child at COHR next year we would ask you to encourage them to submit their enrolment or give us a call and come in for a tour. Thank you.

Secondary School Experience Day

Tomorrow our Year 4 students will be visiting Avila College and Salesian College for a secondary school experience day. Regardless of where students are attending secondary school this is a wonderful opportunity for them to gain some sense of the size of a secondary college and the breadth of curriculum and experiences that are on offer.

Government Secondary School Enrolments 2024

Parents intending on sending their child to a government secondary school in 2024 are asked to collect enrolment forms from our school office.
