Week 7 Term 2

How exciting, this week we had Kylie from ECCOS visit and help the Prep, 1/2 class with some propagation of snow peas, radishes, broad beans, and yummy garlic (kindly donated by James Lucas). The children discussed and got hands-on in our school vegetable garden, planting and thinking about caring for it sustainably and being able to reuse items to ensure the protection of our plants. Thank you to everyone who brought in milk cartons, newspapers, and eggshells to help us with this project.

Kylie from ECCOS encouraged investigation and discussion of the different types of soil and the importance of microorganisms in the soil for growing plants. She also assisted the children to get the old worm farms up and running. This means that now all the children in the school can feed the worms the compost from their classroom bins.

Please ask your children what they have learned throughout our topic on Sustainability and what changes they might like to suggest you could implement at home.

We also have a lovely student teacher in our classroom Miss Chelsea Wilson. She will be teaching the children (alongside Mr. Foley and Mrs. Tarquinio) over the next couple of weeks. Welcome Chelsea to the 1/2 family.

Have a fabulous long weekend.
