Vinnies Winter Appeal

The Vinnies have turned their attention to the annual Winter Appeal for Term 2. For those who are new to Nazareth, we encourage students and staff to donate non-perishable food items and toiletries, which will then be donated to the needy within our broader school community. Each House area will have a donation box located outside the HOH office and Vinnies will come around during morning Pastoral to collect items, or students can place them there directly.

Parents/Guardians/Caregivers and friends of Nazareth are welcome to leave donations at Reception and there is a box in the lunchroom for staff donations.

The focus is on donating a meal (cereal and long-life milk, pasta and pasta sauce etc) or a small toiletry bag with essential items that a homeless person would value - deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc. The appeal will run until 6 June when we have the Mass for Social Justice ( Sacred Heart).

Music Camp

What happens at the Music Camp, goes behind the Music Camp!

Nazareth Music students spent two days and a night at Don Bosco Camp enjoying hours of music making and collaboration with diverse performers from Years 7 through to 12.

Usually, the camp was meant for students involved in the ensembles program.  I  decided this year to invite all students enrolled in the music program to give all Nazareth young musicians a memorable lifetime opportunity, make music across year levels and build strong network with other musician and teachers.

A few students from the instrumental program accepted the invitation to come on the camp and all the ensembles’ students obviously attended.  Instrumental Music program students who attended have reported that they have enjoyed that camp and didn’t know it was going to be such fun.  In fact, new music students have expressed interest in joining an ensemble to reap all the benefits of being of a music camp.

Although it was a single night activity, it was such a delight to see students involved in singing, performing and collaborating with musicians of different abilities.  Honestly, this camp has been the highlight of what music department has done for far and first of kind I have organised as the Instructional Leader of Performing Arts. I am grateful to blessed by such talented, hardworking and passionate musicians.

Speaking to various ensembles after the final performances, every single student had confirmed learning new things and taking on challenges outside their confidence zones.  Students were involved in conducting (for the first time), assembling and dismantling a drum kit, PA connection and signal flow control among a few things that most music students wouldn’t perform a typical music classroom or ensemble.

So, what happens at the music camp? …

You should know that answer since you have read this article.

Thank you and see you around and surely next year for more fun things too.

Production Update: Seussical the Musical

Since the beginning of Term 1, 45 students from all year levels have been working hard to learn the songs, blocking and choreography for “Seussical”, a musical centred around the characters from Dr. Seuss books.

Students have been working incredibly hard, attending two rehearsals each week (and some Sundays), to portray the beloved characters of Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant, Sour Kangaroo, the Whos in Whoville and many more!

Recently, with the help of many staff and parent volunteers, costume, makeup and hair trials were conducted. This was a whole day event and is an important stage of the Production process as it helps the performer see their characters to life.

This week we have also had the backstage crew join our rehearsals. Our crew members utilise their team building, communication and cooperative skills, learning how to efficiently and safely move our set on and off the stage.

Seussical promises to be a spectacular show, please bring your families and support the wonderful talent of Nazareth College!

Performances will be held in the Wheeler Auditorium, 1, 2 and 3 June at 7.00 pm.

Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased through:

We hope to see you there!

VSAC Swimming

On Monday 8 May, two of our brightest swimmers Andrew Dinh (Year 9) and Lucas Dinh (Year 7) competed at the regional VSAC Carnival at MSAC, Albert Park.

Both were selected to represented SIS (Southern Independent Schools) after topping their age group.  Only 40 students out of 1200 were chosen, an amazing achievement.

At the end of the carnival, Andrew had achieved 1st in 50m Butterfly and 2nd in 50m Breaststroke. His younger brother, Lucas, had notable placings in four different events.

Congratulations to both boys for their amazing results.

SIS finished in 8th place from 13 Associations, an excellent result!

Da Vinci Decathlon

On Monday 8 May, eight Year 7 students participated in the interschool Da Vinci Decathlon event held at St Leonards College.

  • Tsai Tsen Hung (Naomi)
  • Dunuwara Dimingu Withana (Thas)
  • Aleksandar Delosevic
  • Victoria Shi
  • Masa Basic
  • Stephanie Nicolaou
  • Jamie Brown
  • Leah Eager

The Decathlon is an all-day academic event designed to challenge and stimulate the minds of students. The 10 disciplines which students compete in include Maths, Science, English, Cartography, Code Breaking, Ideation, Engineering, Creative Producers (performing a short scene), Legacy (general knowledge) and Art and Poetry.

Although Nazareth did not win the competition, our students put up a solid effort. They presented strong responses for the Creative Producers and Engineering Challenges and represented the College in a positive way.
