Deputy Principal Staff and Students Report

Staffing

As you are aware there is currently a shortage of teachers throughout Victoria. Nazareth has been in the very blessed position to be able to have all classes covered by qualified teachers. A lot of schools this year have struggled to fill vacancies and have not, in a number of cases, been able to offer a subject due of the teacher shortage. I want to acknowledge how blessed we have been to not only be able to fill all of the classes, but to have the great, professional, caring and committed teachers that we have.  We are very proud of our staff and their commitment to the students in our community.

I would also like to acknowledge the great work of Ms Barbara Murphy, our Daily Organiser. Each day there are numerous staff off campus or out of class with excursions, sport, camps, extra curricular activities, incursions, meetings, professional development and leave (carers, personal, long service leave). Each day Ms Murphy is ensuring every class is covered with the best possible replacement. This also means organising Casual Relief Teachers regularly to fill in the gaps. She has done an amazing job this year in ensuring we are doing the best we can for the learning of every student in our community.

Uniform

The majority of our students are looking very good in their winter uniform. There are a small number of students lacking items. A reminder that it is a College expectation that students will be in their full uniform, and that the NCCA has a Second Hand Uniform Shop available should there be any uniform needs. Please see the NCCA page for opening dates, times and contact details.

Generous Students

During the week we had a school tour. The most common response we get from our guests who undertake school tours is compliments on how good our students are. There is a large group of students that act as ambassadors of our community and run small tour groups for our guests. I would like to acknowledge and thank them for their generous service which is a blessing to our community. They are great ambassadors for Nazareth College.

We also have had a big group of students rehearsing for the College musical during the holidays, on weekends and after school. The students have been working very hard since the start of the year. The College Production is fast approaching and we are looking forward to seeing these students on stage and are very grateful for their wonderful and very generous contribution to our community.

We also have had students on the Music Camp, attending the interfaith Building Bridges Program, representing the school at interschool sport, assisting at St Anthony’s Primary School tutoring. All examples of great generosity and students doing wonderful things for our community and beyond. We are very blessed with the young people we have in our community.

Students

As we move into the middle part of this short term it is time for our students to be busy working. Please continue to contact staff if there are any concerns, anything we can assist with or anything we should be aware of to assist with their learning and wellbeing. Please contact your child’s Pastoral Teacher without hesitation so we can assist.

God Bless

Mr Justin Duckett
