Jenna - Novel Study is one of the most entertaining and crucial subjects. It is important preparation for high school. 6C is currently reading Parvana’s Journey. Parvana’s Journey is about a thirteen year old girl who has lost her father is separated from the rest of her family. She goes on a dangerous journey. In a ruined house, she finds a baby called Hassan. She takes him along with her. Soon after that, while searching for shelter she finds an irritable bad-tempered boy by the name of Asif. While he is rude to Parvana, he is kind and gentle towards Hassan. Eventually, along the journey, the two of them grow closer, but when Parvana fails to boil the water properly, it causes a rift between them and the duo start a rock-throwing competition, leading them into a mine-field. After the blast, they discover an effervescent girl called Leila, and they stay in her house with her grandmother until the Taliban blows it up once more. At a refugee camp, Leila’s luck runs out and she died to a minefield. There, Parvana finds the rest of her family. My favourite character is Parvana, I loved her determination to find her biological family and protect her new one. I think the message of this story is to keep being determined, and eventually you will achieve your dreams.

Adrina - At the moment my class is reading the book Rabbit-Proof Fence by Doris Pilkington and Nugi Garimara. This book is about three girls that are from both an Aboriginal and English background that go through a hard time in the Moore River Settlement and try to escape. I think that the message of the story is that all people should have the same rights and be treated equally. I like the part of the story when they try to escape from the settlement and head back home, following the Rabbit-Proof Fence. Personally, my favourite character is Molly because of her leadership role and confidence.

Jude - In my class, we are reading a book called Parvanas journey. Parvanas journey is a book about a young girl that sadly had her beloved father pass and is lost and stranded with only a little bit of food and water.  On her journey she comes across many difficulties. Some of these difficulties are coming across a young boy named Asif that is very mean and frustrating, almost being bombed and chased by the Taliban and having to look after a toddler named Hassan.  Personally, my favourite character is Asif because he doesn’t care about what other people think of him.  I think that the message in this book is to keep following your dreams and never give up.

Isaac - In my class I am reading a book called Sick Bay by Nova Weetman. The main two characters in the book are Riley and Meg. Riley has diabetes and Meg is very poor. The message in this book is to be grateful for what you have and it’s ok to be different. My favourite character in this book is Dash because he seems like a sporty guy and I can relate to that. Also, I like how this book is based on children who are in year six like us so they all have similar situations. Overall, this is a great book and I’ve really enjoyed reading this in class.
